Eagles' chance to 'put their mark' on division
Daily News staff
The Eagles broke their Sunday Night Football skid with a victory over Chicago a few weeks back to move to 1-7 on NBC. The Giants are 1-1 this season on Sunday nights, with a win over Dallas in Week 1 and a loss to Arizona in Week 7.
Regardless of when, there is no question what is at stake Sunday night:
"Right now the Philadelphia Eagles are playing as well as anybody and they are going to have a chance to put their mark on this division," analyst Cris Collinsworth said.
"Big game," added NBC's Tony Dungy. "The Giants got their running game going last week. Philly has got to get their running game going to keep that defensive line off Donovan McNabb."
And the wild card here could be Michael Vick, coming off his two-touchdown performance last week in his return to Atlanta.
"You have to be more aware of Michael Vick," said Dungy, who also has been a Vick adviser. "I have a feeling Andy Reid may have been saving some things for the big division games down the stretch."
Added Rodney Harrison: "That's a big headache for defensive coordinators. It creates so many different problems."
EAGLES' WIN STREAK
The Eagles have won the last three games against the Giants, but neither coach was much interested in talking about that yesterday.
"No. I’m not going to talk about the three games," the Giants' Tom Coughlin said. "I think we are well aware of the first game here this year. We gave up a lot of big plays; didn’t stop the run. And, again, I think that is where it starts for us."
And Andy Reid: "Listen, every game is different. We understand that, so I am not going to get into all of that. Every time we play each other it’s a knockdown, drag out. That’s how it works, physical football game. This won’t be any different. It’s going to be one of those kinds of games. That’s how we are preparing ourselves."
Donovan McNabb shed a little more light on the subject, but only a little: "We just eliminated mistakes more than they did. When you play a game like this it’s about who wins the turnover battle and who capitalizes on mistakes. I think we have had the opportunity of having less turnovers than them and have put ourselves in position to score when the time was needed. I think that not only for this particular game, but that is how you win games in this league."

Let me copy and paste my other comment about this game. Giants gave up closs to 400 yards to Romo, yes Romo. Our victory will depend on stopping Giants run game and get our own running game going. McNabb, Jackson, Celek, etc and their contribution will be nice bonus. Now that bonus is usually enough to win games, but not in a division match up. Stop Giants run game.... rest will fall in place. Giants are not that good, Dallas gave that game away...Eagles gonna crush them! BoyWonder_89
romo completed 41...41/55 passes lol to Eli's 11/25 that will not get it done against the eagles.... and bradshaw got going against the cowboys not anyone else 7 for 47... jacobs was 13 for 39 not exactly "this team is rolling up the yards" stats...stop the run and this could be another walkover because Eli cant carry them Iggles21
Eagles have had great Decembers - this game wil be no different - Giants favored to win, but I don't thing it's going that way- A win here ensures Philly of a home playoff game long as they beat Dallas - and they're due for that! Tom Man
Past Eagle history has shown that when they can put the division and an opponent away early THEY DON'T! They seem to thrive on backs to the wall. Hopefully Sunday will be different. If Jackson is back that creates a new set of problems for NY. Even without him Avant could be the difference. Donovan has it right - less turnovers and he isn't sacked a dozen or more times! jakster
Last year's Redskins game do make you think twice about Eagles closing out strong. But the huge difference between last year and this year is McCoy, Buckley, and Weaver have created a genuine run game if MARTY stay patient and gives them a chance to run. In addition, Jackson, Maclin, Celek, and Avant are much better set of receivers than we had last year. Run defense and D-line are the only concern at this time along with SPECIAL team... Seed
I hope the ridiculous Eli shows up. The one that threw the early INT in the first game. Eagles need an early lead and then foot on the throat. I'd love another laugher. It was a bit of a shame that the Cowboys gave back some Giant confidence. otherwise, they would have been lost coming into this game. The L in the 'Boys' column helps but not if the Giants win this week- at least the Eagles could have taken care of business on 1/3 [sic the Cowboys lose to New Orleans] RichieAllen64
Blitz, Get to he punk Eli make him get rid of the ball early, turnovers will decide this game. So don't turn the ball over. Lets Kick some Giant ars. GO EAGLES igglebob

Giants have to be the favorites. They're healthier and may be coming out of their slump. Never know, though. Go Eagles! tacklinjoe
The Eagles need to stop the g-i-ants run game, establish theirs, spread the ball, have a balanced attack 50/50 run/pass gameplan. But the most important thing is to play mistake/penalty free football and win the turnover battle and they will beat the g-i-ants this week. They do that they will be in first place because the little cowgirls is going to lose this week. VegasEagleFan

This should be a heck of a football game. Just one memo for Andy: DON'T ABANDON THE RUN! EVEN IF YOU ARE LOSING! BALANCE BALANCE BALANCE... GO BIRDS! Oak31

Watched the Gints/Cowgirls game, was not impressed with either team, IF the Birds play as well as last Sunday then they should win the game. If our lines have a decent game then this one should not be a problem, just sayin'... DJ
Eagles 31 Giants 17 ya heard! BoyWonder_89
I smell the Cowgirls and Midgets sitting at home micorwaving popcorn once again..... starbird
POON, put it on mute before entering site. eagles/giants at their place, cold/nasty weather, both teams can run the ball both can play defense. jackson and harris will win it on special teams. giants are bad on special teams and eagles are excellent. that's the difference unless manning decides to give us the ball a couple of times again.
