On Friday Eagles DT Mike Patterson told The Inquirer he would be playing on Monday in the Superdome against the New Orleans Saints.

Moments ago the Eagles made it official, activating Patterson from the reserve/non-football illness list. To make room on the 53-man roster the Eagles released linebacker Jason Williams.

After suffering a seizure during a training camp practice in 2011, Patterson appeared in 15 games last season and then underwent brain surgery in January to remove an arteriovenous malformation.

The eighth-year defensive tackle and former first round draft choice began practicing with the team on Oct. 22.

“I am really anxious,” Patterson said after today’s practice. “More than anything, I am excited to get back out here.”

Before making the announcement official, Eagles coach Andy Reid had high praise for Patterson.

“He did a good job,” Reid said after today’s practice. “He moved around well and there were no symptoms [from the] surgery he had with his head and brain.”

Patterson said the most difficult challenge will be getting up to game speed.

“I am just hoping to stay with the speed and just keep on working,” he said. “That’s the only thing I have a concern with, just staying with the speed of the game.”
