The Eagles have acquired Cardinals guard Reggie Wells for a sixth-round draft pick in 2011.

Wells, entering his eighth NFL season, started all 16 games for a prolific Cardinals offense in five of the past six years. He could help address one of the Eagles' biggest questions: right guard, a job that has been held by the shaky Stacy Andrews.

Wells has also started six postseason games during his seven-year tenure with the Cardinals. He only played nine regular season games in 2005 because of a broken ankle, but otherwise has started every game for the Cardinals since the end of 2003. Most of those starts -- 78 -- were at left guard. Todd Herremans is firmly entrenched there for the Eagles.

"We’re adding a player that has started several seasons in the National Football League and has played at a very high level during the course of his career,” head coach Andy Reid said. “He has experience at several different positions along the offensive line and he will be a welcome addition to that group. You can never have enough depth at that position as you go through an NFL season.”

The Cardinals were deep at guard and Wells, who is in the final year of his contract, was being challenged for his job in the preseason, according to The Arizona Republic. Wells was due $2.4 million this year, according the Republic.

The Eagles also cut 10 players and placed defensive end Victor Abiamiri, who in February had micro-fracture surgery on his knee, on the Physically Unable to Perform list. The move makes him ineligible for the first six weeks of the season.

The roster is now down to 65. Those cuts were: RB J.J. Arrington, WR Dobson Collins, DE Pannel Egboh, TE Nate Lawrie, RB Martell Mallett, T Jeraill McCuller, CB David Pender, CB Geoff Pope, DT Boo Robinson, and S Anthony Scirrotto.

By cutting Arrington the Eagles get a 2012 6th round pick from Denver as part of the Joe Mays trade from earlier this summer.

Solid addition. The eagles seem to be parting ways with the entire Andrews contingent. I just hope there is enough time for our starting o-line to gel against a tough Green Bay defensive front.

I agree with Narly, and the only guy cut that had potential was the T McCuller

Good move. The Eagles have to improve the offensive line or Kolb better wear an armored suit!

Trade Stacy A to NY for anything we can get. It should be an easy sell. "Hey Giants...you really need to have Stacy there to provide some stability to your newly acquired O-line cornerstone. We hate to give him up but were concerned about Shawn. With that in mind we will settle for a 2nd or even 3rd round draft pick...".

Makes me feel a bit better about the o-line for this season. Good move.

dragoon6, good question. Any nagging injuries, or do the Cards have new linemen waiting to take his place? I don't remember anything about Wells being disgruntled or anything like that.

Poor Boo Robinson. There's about three lousy puns floating around in my head now. I'll spare the world from hearing them. Baseball posters should remember that next time Jason Werth's value is called into question.
