Saints best offer for Sheppard so far

The Eagles were still listening to offers this morning for cornerback Lito Sheppard, but the one they have received from the New Orleans Saints remained the best on their breakfast table as they made final preparations for the draft, which begins at 3 p.m.
A league source said Friday that the team has received a number of second-round draft picks as offers. The source said this morning, however, that the Saints' offer would bring the team offensive tackle Jammal Brown and possibly another draft pick.
Brown, 27, was the 13th overall pick in the 2005 draft and played in the Pro Bowl in 2006 when the Saints reached the NFC championship game. He started 13 games at right tackle as a rookie and 15 games each as a left tackle in 2006 and 2007.
The addition of Brown would quell concerns about how the Eagles will replace aging veteran tackles Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan, both of whom are on the final year of their contracts. It’s not known exactly how Brown would fit in with this year’s team. One possibility is that he could play left guard.
If the Eagles acquire Brown, their attention in the first round of today’s draft would turn away from offensive tackle and possibly toward Miami safety Kenny Phillips.
According to several reports, the Saints were also offering Brown to the St. Louis Rams in an attempt to move up from 10th to second in the first round. The reports said that the Saints would then take LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey. The Saints have also had conversations with the New York Giants about tight end Jeremy Shockey, a move that would likely cost them their second-round pick.
