The Eagles hit the field for the first time at training camp yesterday, albeit with just 29 players. Here's what they're saying about the team:
Vick: I'll help team, even if I'm not the starter - Les Bowen, Daily News
'I'd continue to support this team," Vick said. "I'm here for one reason -- to help this team win football games ... by any means necessary, whatever it takes. If I have to watch film with alll the quarterbacks, or if I have to coach the quarterbacks one day, that's what I'll do. I can do it."
Eagles (Abbreviated) Practice Observations - Sheil Kapadia, Philly Mag
As for the on-the-field session, undrafted free agent Jake Knott gave new meaning to the term “one-on-one instruction.” He’s the only linebacker here, so when players split up by position, it was just him and inside linebackers coach Rick Minter.
They Hit the Field - Tommy Lawlor, IgglesBlitz
C Jason Kelce was eligible and decided he wanted to practice. He is ready to go and just wanted some extra time on the field. That’s smart. This will let him ease into things and be ready when the full team practices on Friday.
James Casey Ready To Excel In Offense - Dan Klausner, Eagles Mothership
There are a bunch of buzz words when it comes to Kelly and what he wants in his players, but none more prevalent than “versatile.” It’s not just about what a player can do, but where he can do it. That’s what drew Kelly to Casey and gave the football world its first clue as to how the new coach wants to define his NFL offense.
Eagles taking creative approach to building roster - Reuben Frank, CSN Philly
There’s only a few ways for NFL teams to find talented players. You draft ’em, you trade for ’em, you sign ’em as free agents.
Or, if you’re the Eagles, you look under every rock, search in every nook and cranny, exhaust every unconventional possibility trying to land that long shot who could one day become a star.
Who has final say - Kelly or Roseman? - Jeff McLane, Philadelphia Inquirer
Typically, it is the head coach. But Roseman has considerably more power in football matters than he did under Andy Reid. That being said, Albert Breer of the NFL Network wrote last month, citing two NFL sources, that Kelly would have final say.
Philadelphia Eagles Training Camp Notes - Brandon Gowton, Bleeding Green Nation
Derek Carrier, my "player to watch" in training camp, made a few nice catches today in 2-on-3 drills. He moves well for a big TE, which makes sense because he played as a WR/TE/H-Back in college. Still has a long way to go to earn a spot on the roster.
I'll be doing a chat here today at noon, so fire off any questions you may have about Eagles training camp.
