Eagles to host private workout for QB Ryan Tannehill
Daily News staff
The Eagles were not among the 22 teams represented -- or at least who signed in -- at the Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s Pro Day today, but Tannehill said that he has a private workout scheduled with the Birds.
Tannehill, expected to be the third quarterback taken behind Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, also has private workouts planned with the Browns and Chiefs.
The Browns and Dolphins were among the team most heavily represented. Cleveland offensive coordinator Brad Childress attended as did Miami general manager Jeff Ireland and Seattle sent head coach Pete Carroll.
Speculation is that the Browns could grab him at No. 4, despite assurances this week from Browns brass that they intend to go with Colt McCoy, or the Dolphins at No. 8. Miami’s new offensive coordinator is Mike Sherman, who was A&M’s head coach during Tannehill’s four years.
During his Pro Day, Tannehill missed one throw and had two drops in the 41 attempts. According to reports, he ran a 4.58 in the 40.
He also seemed to have no problem with the broken foot that he suffered in an offseason drill, forcing a delay in his Pro Day.
The Eagles do NOT need a QB this year. They have too many other position needs to fill. Bobphxville
If the Dolphins don't take him at 8 don't you have to be suspect about taking him anywhere in the top 30 picks considering some guy watched and coached him for 4 years and his team said, pass? If he says he is franchise material, you take him at 8.
The reid Eagles have drafted a WR in the 1st rd twice. It used to be commonplace to hear how they de-valued the position like is said now about LB. They took Mitchell in the late first, 26th or something and he was considered a reach at the time like a lot of Reid era picks and came after the Eagles were being held back because they gave pre-injury McNabb nothing to throw to and this was the panic move. The second time they took Maclin who was a Top 10 pick on every draft board and he dropped to 19. He had 2011 health issues and no one knows for sure to what effect it hampered his play last season. He had some bad drops as well but he could easily correct that and he most likely returns to 2010 form. As long as Vick doesn't continue to ruin two top weapons like Maclin and DJax bc he runs around and throws to guys on broken plays. Long TD passes happen with great timing at high speed. DJax is wasted if you constantly break the play . Make the read and put it up to him.
WR is the longest of shots at 15. UncleStosh
The Eagles need a Defensive Tackle, Mike Patterson is coming off a surgery to his head, and he's 31 years old. The middle of the defense is the weakest point on the entire team. The Eagles are built with speed on the outside and up the gut they are as soft as fresh baked bread. Stiffen up the middle of the defense, draft a physical, big and speedy receiver, then get a Quarterback with a big arm to groom, then a linebacker in the six foot two range, who takes up a lot of space and has good range, a Corner back or Safety, they have four of the first 115 picks and can find good talent for all of those picks to come right in and contribute. Having witnessed the Eagles recent picks at Quarterback, I have no belief in the Eagles evaluation of the available talent at that position. Kolb and Kafka are not impressive picks in the least. There is no way I am comfortable with the Eagles bringing in Quarterbacks to consider picking before their fifth pick.
NO!!!!! Dexter
Dexter,
"Having witnessed the Eagles recent picks at __________, I have no belief in the Eagles evaluation of the available talent at that position."
Fill in the blank with any position you care to name and you'd still be correct.
tpizza- Eagles will need to move up to get Tannehill and he is not a sure bet, Seems to be great as a project (better than average) on the sideline for a year or two and Reid's tutelage gives a special value to the QB's future value. However, I feel that this is a late round pick and would be against moving up and using a valuable additional pick that would be necessary unless it is a 6th or 7th.
I hope this is just a smoke screen. They dont need a QB in round 1. Take that 6'7" kid in the 2nd round. urbnasty
Last season 49ers and Ravens both had elite defenses. But both offenses could not put points on the board when they needed to. Im hoping Miami takes tannehill even though they need a WR. Matt Moore is not the answer. Michael FLoyd should drop to 15. But then if we dont take Floyd guess who will? JETS or BEARS will not pass up on Floyd and i understand why. Both teams could use another elite receiver. Yes_General
