Eagles to host private workout for QB Ryan Tannehill

POSTED: Thursday, March 29, 2012, 2:38 PM

The Eagles were not among the 22 teams represented -- or at least who signed in -- at the Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s Pro Day today, but Tannehill said that he has a private workout scheduled with the Birds.

Tannehill, expected to be the third quarterback taken behind Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, also has private workouts planned with the Browns and Chiefs.

The Browns and Dolphins were among the team most heavily represented. Cleveland offensive coordinator Brad Childress attended as did Miami general manager Jeff Ireland and Seattle sent head coach Pete Carroll.

Speculation is that the Browns could grab him at No. 4, despite assurances this week from Browns brass that they intend to go with Colt McCoy, or the Dolphins at No. 8. Miami’s new offensive coordinator is Mike Sherman, who was A&M’s head coach during Tannehill’s four years.

During his Pro Day, Tannehill missed one throw and had two drops in the 41 attempts. According to reports, he ran a 4.58 in the 40.

He also seemed to have no problem with the broken foot that he suffered in an offseason drill, forcing a delay in his Pro Day.

Tannehill is a good prospect. He played in a West Coast offense at Texas A&M. He's got a strong arm. He's mobile. He's smart. He just hasn't started many games at QB since he started out as a wide receiver. There's a chance Tannehill will be available at 15. The Eagles could let him be an understudy to Vick for a year or two.

Another QB for Reid to ruin?

I'm fine with them drafting a QB but don't give Reid another extension!

I request that Reid by given a workout by the Saints for a potential trade.

There is no way the Dolphins let anybody else sign him.

If Tannehill is not available, then don't draft a QB, because the rest of the field is mediocre. Why do we need another mediocre QB? The Eagles should have lost the last 4 games, because they could have gotten pretty much anybody they wanted.

ej610 you are right on! No way they let him get away when their OC was his HC for 4 years. Unless, they don't really want him. Otherwise, they go get him if they have too.

Tannehill would be Arrogant Andy's best chance to come back, even if his team goes 8 and 8 and misses the Playoffs. "Listen Jeffrey, give me 3 years with this kid and by gosh, we'll be back in the Super Bowl again". That's scary!

The Eagles' feigned interest in Tannehill is designed to pressure other teams drafting ahead of them to take Tannehill. I think their true interests are in other prospects, such as a WR or DT.

We should go after Stephen Garcia from South Carolina and him and Reid's son's can hang out.

QB in the first round would be a wasted pick. We need somebody that can help now. In fact, if the first three picks don't start, the the draft is a failure. We got plenty of holes to fill.

Tannehill has a strong arm and good athleticism. I think he would do good in the Eagles system. But the Scouting report on his accuracy is that the throws the ball where the reciever is instead of where he is going. An Donovan Mcnabb type thrower.. catch and fall down. But if we are going to draft a guy in this year's draft this is the only guy I would even look at this year. He is no Kevin Kolb and thats a good thing. I like Poe @ 15 but if the Eagles can get Tannehill for a reasonable price ( no trading a 2nd round pick maybe Samuels )then go for it.

Since were talking about QB's expect some more stories about McNabb. He was in the the media again today shooting off his mouth off about the Shannahans. Guarantee stories will be on Philly.com before the day is done.

I can see taking Tannehill in the 2nd round. Could be a pretty good pro. He'll probably go much higher, being a QB. Cousins seems like a great backup, maybe with starter potential. I'd take him in the 5th, but sounds like he'll go in the 2nd or 3rd. Wouldn't reach for either of these guys. I believe Kafka is a little better than Cousins.
