The Eagles signed cornerback Roc Carmichael off the Houston Texans practice squad and placed Brandon Hughes on short-term injured reserve. There's an expectation that Hughes will be released when he recovers from his hamstring injury.

Carmichael, 25, was a 2011 fourth-round pick by the Texans out of Virginia Tech. Carmichael spent his first season on injured reserve with a shoulder injury and played six games for the Texans in 2012. He did not make the team's 53-man roster at the end of the preseason.

Coach Chip Kelly admitted on Tuesday that he's been concerned about the depth at cornerback since he arrived in Philadelphia. Starter Bradley Fletcher returns Thursday against the Kansas City Chiefs, but veteran Brandon Hughes hasn't practiced this week with a hamstring injury. After the top three cornerbacks (Cary Williams, Fletcher, Brandon Boykin), the only cornerbacks on the roster are seventh-round pick Jordan Poyer and Shaun Prater, who was claimed off waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals before the season. Prater has never played in an NFL game.
