Eagles release Jamaal Jackson

The Eagles did a little more housecleaning and released center Jamaal Jackson today.

Jackson's release was widely expected. He was the longest-tenured player on the Eagles roster, having been signed as an undrafted free agent out of Delaware State in 2003, and the last remnant from the 2005 Super Bowl roster.

Jackson said there was a "slight, slight chance" that he could return for a tenth season in Eagles green. "But that possibility was slim to none," he said.

He's now a free agent and will join a group of interior linemen looking for jobs. Jackson said he doesn't have any leads yet, but he said he was confident that there would be interest.

"I would hope so," Jackson said. "For a lineman at the position I play -- center/guard -- 31 isn't ancient."

Jackson doesn't have much recent tape, though. He suffered back-to-back season-ending injuries -- a torn ACL and a torn triceps -- in 2009 and 2010. He battled back for next season but lost his spot to rookie Jason Kelce.

Back with more.

A class act - we wish you well. Having use last season to heal-up, J.J. should be on the Redskins' roster by next week. Book it!

    -Go Eagles!

Jamaal Jackson was a fill in for an injured Hank Fraley and never looked back. One of those unsung players doing the dirty work on the line, he had a very nice run here during some good seasons. I tip my hat in respect for the job you did here and wish you nothing but the best in the future, like so many here who recognize and appreciate real NFL talent. Job well done.

Speaking of runs that come to an end, it's time the run of .Jay Grace end. On most days it can be expected that a vile, vicious or racist 3 or 5 word sentence comes from the mind of this low life troll. Are you following me, Philly.Com Censor Guy?

The Eagles only seem to be signing their own people who went 8-8 last year. They don't seem interested in getting any free agents this year. What is the plan to improve? The draft. Good luck with that when Reid only picks bad players. 51 Million for Desean and his ego. Great move there. What's next cut McCoy for cost cutting.

Very good player before the injury bug bit him. I remember screaming at the TV early in the year last season, "why aren't they putting Jackson in for Kelce?!" I hope he catches his 2nd wind somewhere. Class act through some tough times last season.

Appreciate what you did for us, Jamaal. Got his opportunity through injury, and did a good job. Then he lost his job through injury. I guess there's some balance in that. I wish him all the best.

Thanks for your efforts. You had a great run. Undrafted, real small school and you had a 9 year run. Not many can say that. Congradulations.

you know you have less talented players (everybody but the Eagles front office knows) when no other team picks up your free agents.

Nice Jay...kick someone when he's down...oh that's right, Eagle fans...shoulda realized. Kelce is the center of the future, no doubt; Jackson will land on his feet I'm sure. In any case, whatever does the Wonder Boy have in mind for a backup? Drafting a center, a specific offensive lineman, what?

I think the plan is to develop Julian Vandervelde as a backup center.

The Eagles still only have about $12-$13 million under the cap. How can they sign any free agent, sign their rookies and get an extension done for McCoy?
