The Eagles have interest in former New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, but the team needs to look further into his medical condition before they sign him to a contract, a source close to the situation said.

Sanchez missed all of last season as he recovered from a torn labrum.

ESPN reported earlier Monday afternoon that the Eagles were expected to sign Sanchez, and that could very well end up happening, but there are still a few obstacles to clear before a deal can be struck.

There are also a few other teams that are expected to show interest in the 27-year-old quarterback now that the Jets officially released Sanchez. The Rams, Titans and Browns have also expressed interest, according to the New York Daily News.

Should the Eagles sign former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez as Nick Foles' backup?
Yes
No

The Eagles don't technically have a backup quarterback to Nick Foles after Michael Vick signed a one-year deal with the Jets last week. But the team has indicated that Matt Barkley would be given the opportunity to win the spot.

Sanchez, who has four years as a starting NFL quarterback under his belt, would certainly provide competition for Barkley, also a product of Southern Cal. If he were to join the Eagles, coach Chip Kelly would have three drop-back quarterbacks at the top of his depth chart. Many thought that he would only want a multi-purpose quarterback before he joined the NFL last year.
