Eagles-Giants II Report Card

POSTED: Sunday, December 19, 2010, 6:53 PM

Here are our grades. Click here to provide yours.

RUSH OFFENSE

Mike Vick rushed for a season-high 130 yards, including 94 on the Eagles’ final two scoring drives. He had runs of 35, 33 and 22 yards, as well as a 4-yard TD run, his eighth of the season. LeSean McCoy only had 10 carries, but parlayed it into 64 yards. Grade: A-minus

PASS OFFENSE

Mike Vick struggled much of the game. He had just 33 passing yards and an ugly interception in the first half as the Giants constantly pressured him. But he threw for 121 yards and two TDs on the Eagles’ final three possessions after they fell behind 31-10. He finished with a 97.6 passer rating. Grade: B-plus

RUN DEFENSE

Eagles had their problems defensively much of the day, but their play against the run wasn’t one of them. They held Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw to 3.2 yards per carry and allowed just three rushing first downs. Rookie MLB Jamar Chaney came up big. He was in on a team-high 16 tackles. Grade: A

PASS DEFENSE

For the second time in the last four games, the Eagles gave up four TD passes, including three in the first half. QB Eli Manning completed 6 of 10 third-down passes for 109 yards in the first half. The second half was a different story. Manning completed just 7 of 14 attempts and was just 1-for-4 with a sack on the final two possessions. Grade: C-minus

SPECIAL TEAMS

There was DeSean Jackson’s game-winning, 65-yard punt return for a TD. There was David Akers’ perfectly executed onside kick with 7 1/2 minutes left. There was Akers’ 34-yard field goal, his 24th in his last 25 attempts. The only real negative was a 22-yard punt return by the Giants’ Will Blackmon and Jorrick Calvin’s poor, 16.2 kickoff return average Grade: A

OVERALL

This game could have been a season-breaker. Now it could be a season-maker. Trailing by 21 points with less than 8 1/2 minutes left, they came back to win. Big plays by the offense when they needed them. Big stops by a defense that had taken more punches than Chuck Wepner in the first half. Nuff said. Grade: B-plus

C minus for the pass D?! Were you watching the game? Patterson is a serious liability moving forward into the playoffs. And now the safety's out for the season, as well.

I said it at halftime, down 24-3: "If they win this game they're winning the Super Bowl." I'm sticking to that. Who comes back from down 21 with 8 minutes left in another barn? And doesn't "Vick in the ATL for the NFC title" smell like destiny?

WIth Asante back, why not try Lindley at at the other CB spot and move Patterson to the underneath spot. I just dont think Patterson can cover the Elite WR's. Or Maybe, try Patterson at Saftey now that Allen is done. Patterson is a physical DB, but I just dont know if he is CB material. Awesome game, but the Defense needs to limit teams to under 30pts because they wont always get a chance to comeback like they did today. The Giants always seem to implode but I ll take it!

With this Eagles team the only way to accurately grade them is with either a W or and L, this game W, enough said!

The Giants are a physically big team. They pushed the Eagles all over the field today. Their receivers could play the line. Patterson had a bad game but this kid can cover and tackle. I was glad to see Chaney have a good game going against that line. Why was he playing behind Bradly. Bradly couldn't cover my grandmother. The Eagles linebackers and DB's were playing the biggest and toughest offense out there and in the end their speed won. This is a fun team to watch and Vick has been amazing. I don't think there is an NFL team out there looking forward to playing them for all the chips. We need the Giants to get knocked out of the playoffs. And may I add that I think Coughlin possesses exactly no class whatsoever. He built a big tough slow team which ain't gonna cut it in todays wide open full speed ahead NFL and he degrades a young punter in full view of every camera out there. The guy is a disgrace.

Chaney was a beast at tackling and stopping the run... Covering the pass, not so much. Just please draft a corner!

Reid gets an F. Not throwing the red flag -- TWICE! -- almost cost them the game. Again, the Eagles players win despite Reid. Get him out of the head coach job! Please!

The Team deserves an A+ for not quiting. As others have stated, the defense needs to improve. It cannot continue to give up more than 17-20 points per game if they face the elite teams in the playoffs. Patterson has digressed since Brit (Titans) took him to town. He doesn't seem to be gaining any useful experience in order to improve. Reid needs to either give him help or move/bench him. He is an agressive hitter so it's tough to sit him. Run defense looked great but is it at the expense of the pass defense?

Agree with comment about a classless Coughlin

it is so difficult to come back from that kind of deficit in the nfl, on the road, top ranked d. that was a great physically intense game. that is the kind of crucible that forms a champion team. to overcome that end of half int and reid's inexplicable nonchallenge is just incredible.

ok so let's say reid throws the red flag and loses the challenge-can we still win without the timeout?? I have seen people say time and time again that he wastes timeouts that were needed at the end of the game and yet he gets hammered.......

Noone comes back from 31-10 almost halfway through the 4th Qtr. Unless of course you have the heart, the will, the determination, the belief, and the talent to do so. It must be destiny for Michael Vick to redeem himself in front of the entire world in this amazing season's upcoming NFC Championship game in his old home stadium. And play like a champion and prevail. Triumphant. Redemption. History.

Message to all NFL Teams: It doesn't matter how this Eagle Team plays through three quarters. Against the 2nd ranked Defense in the NFL. This Young Eagle team FINISHES..As far as the "PATHETIC" Ratings above. WELL this WIN will go down as a "CLASSIC". #1 OFFENCE PHI. #2 DEFENSE NY. in New York. Hmm To see this young Team, Vick's leadership, soo many intangibles... Revealed.Mental Toughness. Heart. Spirit. Trust. Clutch, Winning play against a hated opponent. The Intangibles that allow Teams to walk away CHAMPIONS. Intangibles I have been Starving for as an Eagle Fan. . Go Eagles. SEE U IN DALLAS.
