Dungy: Eagles should take a look at Tebow

POSTED: Tuesday, March 20, 2012, 2:02 PM
Tony Dungy thinks the Eagles should at least take a look at Tim Tebow. (Jack Dempsey/AP)

Should the Eagles swing a trade for Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow?
Yes, he'd be a great backup for Vick.
No, he's all hype.

Tim Tebow reportedly would prefer to return to Florida as his next destination, with Jacksonville seemingly at the top of his list.

But, what about Tebow and the Eagles? Les Bowen and Rich Hofmann have both weighed in on the issue here on philly.com, with Les saying that Vick doesn't need Tebow waiting in the wings and Rich saying, why not?

Former Indianapolis coach Tony Dungy also has weighed in on Tebow and the Eagles. Dungy, of course, has been a mentor and adviser to Michael Vick.

"Left-handed guy. Same offense. Mobile quarterback," Dungy told the Dan Patrick show on Tuesday. "As much as Mike (Vick) has been hurt, if you're Andy Reid, you probably have to look at it, and think about it."

Dungy, though, also conceded that bringing Tebow in is different than other quarterbacks, because you have to build a system around Tebow's skills. You can't just plug him in.

Some have suggested that Tebow could be a fit with New England. Not Dungy.

"I don't know that Tim wants to play another position, I couldn't see it working where you're bringing this guy in as a change of pace for Tom Brady," he said.

A coach would have to love the guy and the energy he brings. He makes everyone around him better.

I love Tim being a FL resident but born in Philly. Love Tebow but not sure if he is what the Eagles need.

Tebow will NEVER be a fulltime QB in the NFL, but that doesn't mean he can still be valuable piece for an offense. Inside the 10 yard line, there was no stopping his Option and QB draws. Put a hat on a hat and he walks in. Line him up in the backfield as a decoy. There are some possibilities OTHER than a traditional QB for him.

Would be the dumbest move in the history of sports. Eagles fan are quick to throw our quarterbacks under the but when was the last time we had dominate wideouts? The answer is T.O. We have average wideouts and some of the worst safeties and linebackers in the NFL and we are talking about Tebow.

I'll bet Andy and Marty could make him a great QB. It would take a few years and by then Vick might be too beat up to keep playing. Jacksonville will probably pick him up because the locals know how he raises everyone's game, and he'd fill the stadium.

Please no more advice from Coach Dungy... that's how we got stuck with Vick... Can't we do our own homework? Oh, yeah that got us Kevin Kolb. Hmmm... Let go after Peyton Mann... oops too late...I got lets go after the 2nd pick in the draf.... really the Redskins got that. Ok let's keep rooting for the most fragile QB... of marginal talent... who refuses to slide. Here hoping Vick stays healthy... other wise its Kafka and whatever retread they just signed.

Hey everybody, they should trade Asante Samuel for Tim Tebow! They're always crying and working too hard to unload Asante. That's a way.

Yeah, that's exactly what our pass happy offense needs: a quarterback who can't throw. Tebow would be the most illogical quarterback in the NFL for Reid's system. Unless he can play linebacker, I don't see any room for him on the Eagles.

If Tony Dungy says it's ok, that alright by me. He's knows MV better than ANYONE posting here or in the Eagles organization.... Maybe this will force Marty to hand the ball off 25 times a week to the best RB in the NFL.
