Deion: McNabb deal 'dumbest trade ever'

Deion: McNabb deal 'dumbest trade ever'

In the past, Deion Sanders has made two things clear:

1. He's a Donovan McNabb fan.
2. He can't stand Eagles fans.

So it should really come as no surprise that Sanders sounded off during an NFL Network appearance tonight when asked what his first thought was when he heard the news that the Eagles had dealt McNabb to the Redskins.

"First of all, I gathered myself and sat down because I couldn't believe that this was the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my entire life, except for that Herschel Walker 'shibocle' years ago," Sanders said, apparently so distraught that he had to make up a new word. "But you trade a guy in your own division that you got to see him twice, and you have [Kevin] Kolb, [LeSean] McCoy, [Jeremy] Maclin and DeSean Jackson - seven years amongst the complete trio of playmakers that you have for an 11-year guy that has taken you to five NFC championships and a Super Bowl. Man, are you kidding me?"

Sanders was asked if the Redskins have leapfrogged the Eagles in the NFC East pecking order. He said the Cowboys and Giants are at the top of the division, and then it's a toss-up between the Eagles and the Redskins.

That's when co-host Warren Sapp jumped in.

"You look at these two teams... they swapped quarterbacks," Sapp said. "Now the Philadelphia Eagles have the worst quarterback in the division, and the Redskins have one of the best defenses, and now you give him a veteran quarterback. Prime, Philadelphia's at the bottom of this division right now."

That's all it took to convince Sanders.

"You know what, I would agree with you, big fella. I would," he said. "Dumbest trade ever. I'm still mad about this trade."

Maybe we can get Deion and Brian Baldinger to duke it out?

You may remember that a couple years ago after the Eagles beat the eventual NFC champion Cardinals at home on Thanksgiving, McNabb made an NFL Network appearance where Sanders called Eagles fans "idiotic" and admitted that he couldn't stand them.

One Andy Reid sidenote to all this. For the first time in years, he'll be able to play the whole "nobody thinks we're any good" angle. Almost every season during the McNabb/Reid era, the Eagles have been a popular or trendy pick to make noise in the NFC.

But in 2010?

It doesn't look like that'll be the case. I don't know exactly what that different mindset counts for. Ultimately, it will come down to whether the players are good enough. But as we see athletes create feelings of disrespect for added motivation all the time, it certainly can't hurt.

Caring about what Peon Deon has to say is absurd, people who care about his opinion probably are shocked he has made as many tackles after retiring as he did when he ball hogged a career.

Dear Deion, did you watch the last games of the Eagles season? Did you watch the NFC Championship games where the Eagles were favored to win and advance to the SB? Did you see the 2 for 5 with 5 yards gained in the first half of the playoff game? Or were you just watching the video clips from the the first years of McNabb's tenure? Did you see his accuracy percentage for the last few years? Did you notice that McNabb's record against playoff teams in 2009 was a big fat ZERO? That's right, ZERO for SIX. Dear Deion, go back in your cave and use your DVR. McNabb's time was up. If not not now...when?????

I thought the other parts of the piece exposed Sanders as being even dumber than the guy who made up the word "shibacle" a minute earlier. He said he felt sorry for Kolb because the second he threw an incomplete pass he'd be looking over his shoulder wondering when he would be replaced by Vick. Deion has zero idea how Andy rolls.

Donovan was the greatest QB in Eagles history and I thank him for his great play. But time moves on. I'm not happy about him being traded to DC, but what is done is done. The most interesting aspect to this whole deal has been the player reaction. They are REALLY happy about this move. Did the Philly sports writers miss something AGAIN? Deion Sanders and Warren Sapp.......please........does anybody care what they think?

Reality Speaks, you are dead on. As for why Deion hates Philly, I was at a Phillies game (I think it was the '93 season) and Deion was at bat and it was between pitches, the booing for Deion had died down and it was relatively quiet when some guy yelled: "Hit 'em in the Head!". It echoed through the Vet. There was a one second pause and then the whole stadium burst into cackles of laughter. You think he hates Philly? Great athlete, terrible commentator.

Sore Richard -- Trading an alleged probowl qb in the division has been done before. The patriots traded Bledsoe to the bills in 2002 and things worked out fine for the Patriots. Stop crying. And last year, McNabb was barely in the top 5 qbs in the NFC (Brees, Rodgers, Farve, Romo, Warner, McNabb). Second, the Skins are not a very good team. McNabb's numbers will drop. They have no o-line, weak wrs, and a muddled aging running game. I'm not worried about playing McNabb twice a year and neither are the Eagles brass. That should tell you alot. If you are still scared of the skins, get a dog.

I hated the trade at first... but after thinking about it, I'm onboard. Deon and Sapp are both idiots, I hate them both and turn off the NFL channel when they come on. The cowgirls are at the top until they get beat, but to say the giants are better? I like the fact were underdogs... you'll be surprised how this young team will come together and gell to play dominate football as "One".

Deion has some good things to say, but he's off this time. Skill players are not what will determine the Eagles' success this year, and Kolb could be as good as McNabb, possibly a bit better. Eagles may finish last in the Division because of the lines, limping linebackers, and secondary. Nothing wrong with trading a QB at age 33. Sometimes they play well until 38, sometimes until 34.

Dumdest trade? Three years from now when McNabb is out of the league and Kolb is still playing, I hope Deion reminds us of what he said. Some think Mcnabb with Shanahan will work wonders, but Shanahan has only had limited success sice the Super Bowl years with Elway. And again, McNabb is no Elway. When the Skins flounder this yesr, I don't want to hear the excuses for McNabb, the same no line, no receivers, blah, blah blah. I want to hear Deion say he played bad.

ARedskinsfannowtoo....How ironic you use the word clone as your board name has changed just as much as your opinion. Go to the Skins board and tell them how great your "God" is and how "softybrook" held him back. Oh yeah, go back to your kitchen job at the KOP mall as well. First loser McNabb goes and his apologists will soon dwindle away after they accept the reality I've been feeding them. Buh bye!
