DeSean: just focused on football

DeSean Jackson is one of the most explosive players on the field for the Eagles, but he has been quiet off of it so far this year.

Today, in his first extended talk with reporters since May, Jackson said he is focused entirely on football, not the media or other off-field issues.

"I'm just here to play football," Jackson said. "All that other stuff, I could care less about, I have a job to do."

Jackson missed the last week of voluntary off-season training activities, sparking media interest in his contract situation. Jackson is in the third year of his four-year rookie deal. He still has a second-round pick's contract, despite emerging as one of the NFL's top playmakers. The wide receiver refused to talk to the press through much of training camp, though. Today, he said he is just worried about winning games.

Unlike last year, when Jackson set a goal of catching 100 passes, he declined to make any specific predictions about his play this year.

"I'm not doing that this year. I could care less about all of that. I'm here to win games and to be a team player and to do everything I can to encourage my guys go out there and just be successful and win games, that's all I care about," Jackson said, a pale blue Kansas City Royals hat perched atop his head. He spoke to reporters in front of his locker after the Eagles' morning practice. The practice was the last one open to the media before the team's third preseason game, in Kansas City Friday.

In the Eagles' first two preseason games, Jackson has been the team's biggest offensive weapon. At times he seems to move at a different speed than everyone else on the field.

After missing a small portion of Tuesday's practice with a hamstring "tweak," Jackson participated in full Wednesday and said he is fine.

"The hamstring is good, man. No problems with the hamstring," Jackson said.

He said the offense is no different with Kevin Kolb at quarterback.

"We haven't lost a step since he's come in and been the man," Jackson said.

After about four minutes at the center of a media swarm, Jackson excused himself, done talking, for now.
