Dawkins: Reid should be on hot seat

POSTED: Friday, June 1, 2012, 2:05 PM

The always introspective Brian Dawkins has had some interesting things to say following his retirement.

During a wide-ranging interview on NFL.com's "Cover 2" podcast, he talked about the number of hits he took in his career, Terrell Owens and his former coach Andy Reid.

Dawkins was asked whether Reid deserves to be on the hot seat.

"Yes, here's the thing," Dawkins said. "When you go out and you get some of the pieces that they got. That's telling the fan base something. Even coming into this year ... some of the things they're doing this offseason, that's telling the fan base something. You then have to show ... what are you as a coach."

The Eagles have had a positive offseason, taking care of their own players, bringing in DeMeco Ryans from Houston and adding Fletcher Cox in the draft.

"This is the year to me that says . . . If there was a chance for this team go far it should be this year. You should know your team, you should know who can do what," Dawkins said.

For Lurie, owning a football team is about the process. That is what Lurie loves. He loves the process. Reid accepts his involvement in the process. Many head coaches will not accept owner involvement. The Buddy Ryan, George Allen, Marty Shotinheimer types. Reid accepts Lurie's involvement, and that is why he has and will be there a long time.

And the proof is .....you sign two man to man cover corners....and then try to make them play some half-cocked zone coverage devised by a novice defensive coordinator. We all know how that worked out last season.

well so much for that assistant secondary position for Bdawk. But yea he def said what everyone was trying to say. The lack of OTAs last year effects rookies not the rest of team and the head coach who been there for over 13seasons. He brought a Dcoordinator in there who never coached that side of the ball before.

Reid is on the hot seat on every NFL city except the Eagles brass. Like Banner said, "We sold out every gaame and people are waiting to get in so we had a successful year." He doesn't care if the Eagles are 2-14 or 4-12. He still gets his paycheck. What we need is a new owner. Hey Tyrone, I thought you moved back to Mississippi.

What Dawk said wasn't controversial, it was on point. Didn't Lurie say that last years performance was, to quote, "without question the most disappointing season since I've owned the team." They were 8-8, out of the playoffs. What is Dawk supposed to say? The Eagles had a great year.

No, he should keep his 'style' of play, and change teams. Another wasted year is on order for the Eagles.

There are people (or they could be the same person) like CharlieGarner25 and bedpan. They truly have nothing better to do than berate the Eagles any chance they get. Ever new article, there they are. It's rather pathetic honestly. It is so blatantly apparent they have nothing better to do. I would insult them, but the fact that they post multiple comments of hating on every Philly.com article regarding the Eagles says it all. I am so tired of it. It is literally pathetic. Post on an article here and there. We all do. To post on almost every article that comes along, really?! Do you have a job, a girl, friends, anything to take up your time? C'mon

With the previous season the Eagles went 8-8 so there are two ways of looking at it. Is the glass half full or empty... As a fan I don't boo my team - so you can put a big X on me. As a former athlete someone booing isn't going to help my performance, only the contrary. It is not a pastime for these guys it is there living & believe me there all trying to win. I think the positives far out-weigh the negatives for the Eagles going into next season, some don't see it that way. Would you boo your kids team for loosing..? I just think piling on the criticism is counter-productive. Like Doug Collins, show the luv..!

It seems to me Dawk was just referring to the fact that due to acquisitions and resigning key players this year's team is LOADED. This means Reid is on the spot to produce with those players, nothing more.

Hey highfive, I agree with you. Rich Eisen asked good pointed questions which any reporter should do. Dawkins answered them with thought and conviction. The comments here about Reid, McNabb and even Dawkins are sad and uncalled for, these blogs are getting out of control and are getting to be a waste of time to review, which is one of the reasons I haven't blogged in months because of all the negativity and rude remarks. To those who think that the Eagles only want to take your money, stay home and watch soccer or volleyball. Don't buy anymore Eagles jerseys, hats or sweatshirts, just go away or find another team !!!
