Eagles linebacker Keenan Clayton underwent surgery to correct a sports hernia on Tuesday, the team announced.

Clayton was missing from the start of OTAs on Tuesday. He has spent most of the offseason working out at the NovaCare Complex so his absence seemed abnormal.

Now in his third season, Clayton was probably fighting for a roster spot with the additions of DeMeco Ryans and rookie Mychal Kendricks this offseason. He played in 14 games last season, mostly on special teams.

Clayton's surgery -- in which a torn core muscle was repaired -- was performed by William Meyers at Jefferson at the Navy Yard.
