Chaney to start at weak-side LB

POSTED: Thursday, September 27, 2012, 4:27 PM

Which team will win Sunday's Eagles-Giants game?
Eagles
Giants

Jamar Chaney will start at weak-side linebacker in place of the injured Akeem Jordan when the Eagles host the New York Giants on Sunday night.

Jordan suffered a hamstring injury Sunday against the Cardinals and has not practiced this week. Eagles coach Andy Reid said on Wednesday that Chaney and Brian Rolle would split repetitions at practice this week, but Chaney will get the nod against the Giants.

"I'm looking forward to it," Chaney said. "It's kind of hard to sit back and watch when you're used to being out there, but it is what it is. I couldn't help being hurt in training camp and all that. My goal is just to go out there and play to the best of my ability and do everything I can do help my team win."

Rolle opened training camp as the starter at weak-side, but lost the spot to Jordan after the third preseason game. If it weren't for a hamstring injury that he battled through most of camp, Chaney may have been promoted instead of Jordan.

Rolle filled in for Jordan when he was sidelined Sunday, but did not make any plays.

Chaney started all 16 games last season, 14 of them at middle linebacker. He lost his starting spot, however, when the Eagles traded for DeMeco Ryans in March. Chaney was the backup to Mychal Kendricks at strong-side through most of camp, but can play all three linebacker positions.

The weak-side linebacker in the Eagles' scheme has played only on base downs this season.

They should have stuck with Rolle, that kid played with some serious heart last year.

Casey Matthews can't sniff the field, huh? He seemed more suited to weakside than middle. Guess he's a stiff.

Matthews did what he did with the Ducks. Get to the play late ans jump around the pile. Wasted roster spot. The new HC will clean house.

Casey Matthews is more suited for Extreme Home Makeover. His brother runs through walls and we got his little sister.
