Linebacker Jamar Chaney had surgery Tuesday to repair a herniated disc in his neck, the Eagles said.

Chaney suffered the injury in the final game of the season, according to the team. The Eagles initially said he had a concussion, while Chaney said he had a stinger.

Former Eagle Ellis Hobbs returned from a similar injury to play for the team in 2010, but his season and career were ended by another neck injury that year.

The surgery was done by Dr. Craig Brigham in Charlotte.

Interesting news, this may impact how the Eagles draft and pursue this position viafree agency. Hope Chaney gets better.

@Eaglehaslanded - yes, I'm sure now they'll take a LB in the 6th round instead of the 7th round.

Tough break for Chaney. He played okay this year, under difficult circumstances. I think if given a specific role, he could do a solid job, and he would be an outstanding 4th linebacker.

Unfortunately the entire LB squad is full of backup quality type players which is what one would expect from dumpster diver Howieboy. 6th, 7th and an undrafted FA were the starters most of the year which in part, explains the play level.

I will bet my house to a donut they will sign a quality freeagent linebacker now. Chaney was the best of the backers they have.

Gee, the Eagles need a(nother) linebacker. Perfect, let's draft a small Defensive End. That should complete our solid D!!

wow, more good news for Andy and Howie, another discount when they go to re-sign the guy. Thier football/rehab ward will definetely be pumping out success stories this upcoming season...like when they saved a guys life when they tried to trade for a player that had a brain tumor. Great job Andy.

Chaney did not look good this year even when playing in the middle. Now I know the reason. Probably means we need three new linebackers with Rolle as a great backup. I'll keep dreaming CharlieG25.

Jamar played well Eagles this season and to be injured in a meaningless last game makes it an really tough blow. Best wishes for a quick recovery to Mr. Chaney..!
