Celek: Feeling better than expected

"I’m so excited with how my body feels," Eagles tight end Brent Celek said Wednesday. (Matt Rourke/AP)

When OTAs began we were told that Brent Celek would be limited after having offseason surgeries to repair a sports hernia and a torn labrum in his hip. But Celek has taken the vast majority of the first team reps and said today he feels better than he expected, adding to his excitement for training camp and the season.

"I probably didn’t expect to be out here as much, but it’s all how I feel. The fact that I feel good and can do more, that’s good for me," Celek said. "(Coaches) give me free reign to kind of push myself to the point where I can go and then pull back when I go too far."

The tight end said he feels far different than last season.

"I feel so much different. I’m so excited with how my body feels. My lower half, basically my core, it feels totally different than it has," Celek said. "I'm real excited to see how I feel going into the summer, into camp, because I totally feel different right now, and I know it's just going to get better."

Celek quietly played through his injuries last year, and said it's possible they went back even farther in his past; they might have been as much as three years old he said earlier this offseason. He still managed to put up an impressive 62 catches for 811 yards and five touchdowns. He admitted to being slightly out of shape heading into OTAs after the surgeries, but said these past few weeks have helped.

Practice Notes:

-- Defensive end Vinny Curry missed practice today. He "tweaked" his ankle Tuesday the team said. Casey Matthews (back) was also out. Nnamdi Asomugha and DeSean Jackson have been out for personal reasons. The practices are voluntary.

-- Jaiquawn Jarrett made the play of the day, leaping in front of Elvis Akpla to intercept a Mike Kafka pass. The play took impressive timing and a good leap.

-- The scout team simulated the Giants today.
