Bradley and Kolb out; Vick and Gaither in

Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb and linebacker Stewart Bradley are out for Sunday's game at the Detroit Lions, coach Andy Reid said.

Both players suffered concussions Sunday against the Packers and did not practice all week. Reid said that they passed the written part of an exam and will next be examined William Welch, an independent doctor at the University of Penn. There are still several stages that Kolb and Bradley have to pass before they are cleared to return to practice.

Both players were at the NovaCare Complex Friday morning, but left before practice, Reid said. The coach said that Bradley was slightly ahead of Kolb in their recoveries.

With Kolb out, Michael Vick will get his first start under center since Dec. 31, 2006.

"It's a surreal moment," Vick said. "I didn't think it was going to happen this early. As a backup you kind of get into a mode of thinking that you're not going to play."

Vick took every first team snap this week. Mike Kafka moves up to No. 2 on the depth chart. Reid said that he thought about adding another quarterback, but that he'll dress just Vick and Kafka. Reid said that he had several emergency third quarterbacks, but that he's rather keep those names to himself.

With Bradley out, Omar Gaither gets the nod at middle linebacker. Gaither has started 34 games in the NFL, 19 at middle linebacker.

The following players are listed as probable for Sunday: WR Jason Avant (back), DE Antwan Barnes (wrist), RB Mike Bell (toe), G Nick Cole (knee), G Todd Herremans (ankle), T Austin Howard (back), LB Akeem Jordan (groin), DT Trevor Laws (oblique) and P Sav Rocca (left hamstring).

Tackle Winston Justice was selected to be the Eagles' union representative after a vote was held Thursday. He succeeds safety Quintin Mikell. Justice said that the team voted to authorize NFLPA decertification if the union decides that is a necessary step when the collective bargaining agreement expires next March.
