The Eagles confirmed reports that they have traded with Arizona again, this time getting 29-year-old guard-tackle Reggie Wells for an undisclosed pick, reportedly a sixth-rounder.

This would seem to be bad news for at least one sub o-lineman, possibly Max Jean-Gilles or Fenuki Topou. ESPN'sReggie Wells Adam Schefter, who reported the Wells trade, speculates that the Birds might be trying to move Stacy Andrews, who obviously would rather be playing tackle than guard.

Other sources subsequently said the Eagles are shopping Andrews.

Andrews said tonight he isn't sure what the trade means for him, but he does know that when the Eagles wanted him to rework his contract last offseason, including a pay cut, his preference was to go back into free agency. Andrews agreed to rework the deal, retaining his $4.1 million roster bonus, paid last spring, plus $900,000 in guaranteed salary for this season, with the understanding he would be the starting right guard, he said.

“Howie (Roseman, the general manager) reassured me I would be the guy at right guard,” he said. “I wouldn’t have signed (the reworked deal) to be the third guy.”
Roseman has not responded to a request for comment.

Wells, beaten out for a starting job in this Cardinals camp, has started every Arizona game the past four seasons. He arrived as a sixth-round rookie from Clarion in 2003.

“We’re adding a player that has started several seasons in the National Football League and has played at a very high level during the course of his career,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said in a statement released by the team. “He has experience at several different positions along the offensive line and he will be a welcome addition to that group. You can never have enough depth at that position as you go through an NFL season.”

Meanwhile, the Eagles got a head start on their cut from 75 to 53 by axing the following: CB Geoffrey Pope, DE Pannel Egboh, DT Boo Robinson, CB David Pender, WR Dobson Collins, OL Jerrail McCuller, TE Nate Lawrie, RB J.J. Arrington, S Anthony Scirrotto, and RB Martell Mallett.

The Birds traded for Arrington from Denver, giving the Broncos LB Joe Mays. But they get a sixth-round pick in 2012 from Denver if they cut Arrington, which they've now done.

The Eagles announced that as expected, DE Victor Abiamiri will open the season on the physically unable to perform lsit. This means he is sidelined at least six weeks, but won't count against the roster during that time.

I'd drive Stacy Andrews up the turnpike to be with that sloppy mess of a brother so they can have a real "family" atmosphere there.

A sixth rounder for a guy who started 16 games last year at a position the Eagles are very thin. Good move.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that there are teams interested in trading for Stacy Andrews... Maybe, just maybe it might happen?

Good Move by the Eagles to aquire a guy like Wells who was a Starter in Arizona and played all 16 games. He has to be better than Andrews and I hope Wells ends that RG question mark.

Good move on Wells and nizzies- agreed- send that tub of goo up with his bro- Lurie must feel dirty after being violated by the Andrews' stealing all that money. Abiamiri is worth keeping around still.

Stacey can thank Shawn for the Birds "sticking" him at guard. At his initial PC when he signed with the Birds AR said that Stacey would play tackle. His brother Shawn decided that he'd cash in on the Big Bucks and promptly announced that he was switching to tackle. He was going to play left tackle opposite his brother. The Birds then went out and signed "the best left tackle in the NFL per Andy Reid..Jason Peters"...Undaunted, Shawn then announced that he'd play right tackle and his brother would play guard. Now Stacey is about to be displaced by Wells who is a natural RG.

I honest-to-pete do NOT see the reasoning behind THIS: Getting a pretty darn good OT in Stacey Andrews. Already having his brother, who plays Guard at an All-Pro level when healthy. AUTOMATICALLY having both of them SWAP positions for OTA'S and Training Camp. Being VASTLY disappointed when Stacey couldn't really do very well at Guard. Instead of switching him to Tackle, putting that clown from USC in there and saying he is the new starter...BECAUSE...TA DA!>The Kid wasn't gonna play there, or anywhere, last year. So let's try Stacey back at a position he didn't do very well at again THIS year! (All the while telling everybody that there were "no problems..." with the Line) And now trading for Stacey's replacement....after having Stacey re-structure his contract just to stick around and try it at Guard again. W T F Andy?? I applauded all the moves made last year, getting new, proven players on the line. I did however, question WHY you wanted to swap the Andrews' around, as it did not then nor now make any rational sense. The injuries, and Peters' Problems notwithstanding, the Line STILL looks like a work in progress, rather than a unit ready to trudge through a season keeping people out of KK's face. You need to get that thing together next off-season man.

Andy Reid's thinking is that having a good team starts with the O-line and D-Line. Our O-line is atroscious. My confidence in this team is fading with each passing day.

I think Wells played mostly LG in AZ, so not sure how he'd adapt to playing RG. Is Winston Justice a better RT than Andrews? I thought Andrews was supposed to be a pretty good RT when he played in Cincy. I guess Andy would rather try to make guys change positions and watch them fail instead of letting them play where they've been playing since forever.
