Babin weighs in on Castillo
Daily News staff
Eagles defensive end Jason Babin, on his way to his second consecutive Pro Bowl, weighed in on the Juan Castillo situation during an interview with Yahoo's Shutdown Corner.
Like many around the Eagles, he pointed to the improvement at the end of the season rather than the hole that the team dug for itself by blowing those fourth-quarter leads.
"Early on, Castillo was more or less a transition, when you go from offensive line coach to coordinator, you're doing more than just coaching; you're creating a style, a system," Babin said. "So that can take time. It took a little longer to work out than we would have liked and I'm sure he would have liked. I think there was a lot of growing going on and that's what makes him good as a coach. He listened, we listened — we all learned."
Babin also said the players fully expected Andy Reid to return as coach.
"None of us saw it going any other way and we expected coach Reid back, that was the player perspective," he said. "We weren't on the roller coaster of the media, the fans."
Babin said the Eagles went from "ok to friggin good" at the end of the season and despite the disappointment, the onus is the on the players, not the coaches.
"I think we found answers on both sides of the ball, answers we can take to next year," he said. "We had the ability, the talent, everything was there. You can't get mad at the coaches. We went out there and just didn't play that well. Could we have gotten it done? Absolutely. I feel we can do better as we get ready for this next season."
Jason, unless you are getting help at linebacker and safety it does not matter who is the DC...and think about this....OJT at the highest level of the sport....how dumb is that....why lose any game to inexperince or OJT...Andy id a fool and Joe's selection of his valet as a talent selector is a joke....so just shut up and play or go visit Mr Lurie and ask him for real help and real players... nuggett

There's no way to tell if starting the defensive scheme over with Spags, the 3rd time in 3 years.. would be better than sticking with this one and Castillo. Guess we'll roll with it... HighDrama
So I guess Babin is telling us to keep drinkin the Koolade! larryv
Babin is a good player obviously, but there is no leader on the defensive side. p-diddy
So Juan not putting players in good positions, the linebackers and starting a rookie in Matthews and playing CBs against their strengths cost them five fourth quarter leads. So four wins against bad teams helped keep him here. What really keeps him here, is no else wants the job. When he fails again next year, Reid will be gone. It is just a shame fames have to sit and watch one more year of this. We get to watch them botch the draft, trading back several times for inferior players and then hire inferior coaches. Fans aren't buying this anymore. 76er

Vontaze Burfict please! Phillycb21
They were never "friggin good" on D last year as only looked decent against crappy opponents with 2nd string QB's or poor records. Poor tackling from the entire secondary and in ability for LB's to get off blocks or cover TE and RB's was season long and painful to watch! Sure D line could be called friggin good but certainly not the D overall. connorjr- Looked good in the 2nd Giants game. Just saying...
