Andy Reid: Eagles will be OK

POSTED: Monday, October 8, 2012, 1:01 PM

Andy Reid seemed to want to calm the waters in his day-after news conference, following the Eagles' 16-14 loss at Pittsburgh Sunday.

Reid's message was that the 3-2 Eagles are generally playing well, that they have a couple of fundamental things they need to fix, but they are on the right path.

"We're the second-lowest-scoring team in the National Football League right now" because of turnovers, Reid said. "We've got to make sure we fix that ... We've done well with the interception part of it, we're doing a better job with the protection part of it, and the decision-making part of it, [now] we've got to take care of the football. Then, we've got to be able to get off the field on that last [Steelers] drive."

Reid noted that defensively, even though the Eagles' sack numbers are way down, so are their points allowed. He said teams are playing more conservatively, keeping in extra blockers, running shorter, quicker routes, because of the Birds' pressure.

Reid was asked about some of quarterback Michael Vick's statements following the game. Vick said he knows he has to stop fumbling, but he also repeated his familiar view that turnovers are part of the game, and even said that everything happens for a reason, indicating somehow that God or fate might cause him to give the ball away.

Reid said he was pretty sure Vick was asked about fumbling more than a few times Sunday. He did not seemed worried about the quarterback's mindset: "Nobody is more competitive than this guy. He knows he can't fumble...He's going to get that right."

Reid lauded "the grit of this football team, the toughness."

"We haven't been stopped as much as we've stopped ourselves," he said.

The only reported injuries from Sunday were Mychal Kendricks' ankle and Bryce Brown's shoulder. Both players should practice Wednesday, Andy Reid said.

Bull on other team and max protect. The Eagles only line up 4 guys on D line with linebackers deep. They make it easy for other teams line to block because they don't have to worry about the gaps or blitz. Its not always speed or bulk that gets D line to QB, its confusion, and O line not knowing who to block.

This was a tough one to take. As Bubby Brister once said, "could've, should've, would've, didn't".

And if Vick doesn't stop his fumbling...then what, Andy?

This is the essence of Andy Reid tenure: get people to accept
mediocrity, i see it with Rubin over there now too, with the
Phillies, but they get a slide, they just won a world title a
few years back, Reid is 8 years removed from a SB disgrace, and
4 years from an NFC debacle also!

This is a guy who still wears his SB ring from GB, like 18 years old??? Nuff said, on that alone!

Don't think he wasn't aware of the agent trying to finagle Lurie
over his son's tragedy too, this Summer? Nothing goes on in his life
that he isn't aware of first and foremost, a CONTROL freak like him,
no way he didn't know the agent wanted and extension and use that
    as a catalyst.

Reid is cold and calculated, now that's fine if you are Bill
Bellichic and you have 3 SB rings and 5 trips there, to say nothing
of the ones he took with Parcells???

The guy is in our city who hasn't seen an NFL title since 1960,
and he is trying to suggest that "OK" will cut the mustard, no
Andy that's why you will never win a SB, because just "OK" isn't
    OK with SB winning coaches!

even if the eagles win the super bowl, i think theyl draft a qb first round. vick doesnt have much time left in him and this year there is good talent out there at the position. probably will also pick up an offensive lineman early and a third lb- i think jelani jenkins would be awesome to have. also, id like a solid SS

"Andy Reid: Eagles will be OK"

Sorry Andy, as your boss pointed out last year, "OK" is enough to get you fired.

The Eagles need to get to "Really Good", not just okay.

I am not concerned about the Eagles Offense or Defense. I'M CONCERNED THAT MICHAEL VICK IS STILL THE STARTING QB. Especially since we have an etremely talented and mature Rookie QB rotting away on the bench. However, the thought of going 8-8 and seeing Lurie get rid of Reid will benefit us greatly next season when we win a Super Bowl with basically the same roster minus Vick.

And, hopefully, a coach like Jon Gruden. I'd even take Steve Mariucchi, Eric Mangini, Herman Edwards, or Dennis Green. ANYONE BUT REID FOR CHRIS' SAKE!!

Vick needs to know teams will Blitz him all the time--So he needs to call more audibles and Marty needs to change the wide recievers & tighend routes when there is a blitz coming or the recievers need to come back to the ball when vick is in trouble -The word is out on Vick-So he as to do better with the blitz and cover the ball up when he runs--and last but not least Fire the Special Team Coach.

I think we all know where Vick will take us, but is this the kind of offensive line you want a rookie breaking in behind?

A win next week and they are 4-2 with a week off. Cant ask for more than that. Sometimes the process is ugly other times it is pretty. Take a look around the league, Saints and Green Bay dont look like world beaters. I like the birds chances if they truly take it as a week to week proposition.

Detroit coming off a bye and needing a win badly. Not a good spot again for the Eagles. Detroit is not the downtrodden team of a few years back, they have some talent.
