Andy Reid's First Fifth?

POSTED: Wednesday, November 7, 2012, 3:24 AM

Andy Reid started his Eagles' head coaching career with a four-game losing streak. Would have been nice to bookend it by ending gis career with one.

The Eagles have lost four consecutive games four times under Reid, but have always won before the slide hit five.

In fact, the first time he snapped a four-game losing streak — and his first win as Eagles coach — came against the Cowboys.

By the way, the last two times an Eagles coach lost five games in a row (Ray Rhodes, 1998; Rich Kotite, 1994), the head coach was gone at the end of the season.

And in case you are counting (as we are), Wednesday is day No. 5,050 of the Andy Reid era.

The Eagles' four-game losing streaks, and their following victory, under Reid:

Is there a reason why victor cruz has 7TDs and 700yds in the slot but Avant has 200yrds and 0 TDs? Once again the giants continue to give Andy the formula to win. Big physical receivers that can extend drives consistently. QB that can see the field and get the ball out quickly and two effective RBs. you might lose some games but this formula will at least allow you to make the playoffs and that's when you will find out if the team is championship material. Plaxico is still out there why not bring him in? Avant and Cooper are the answer?

Heck. EVERYBODY gives Reid the formula to win including us, the fans and he's rejected it repeatedly. Now, we're giving Limp-Wrist Lurie a formula to win: FIRE ANDY REID!

and here I thought the formula was a top notch QB with the ability to take over a game.

Reid and the Philadelphia fans are victims of his stubbornness. There were periods in his 14 years where he had all of the pieces, except QB. He never was able to learn that he needed a prototypical QB to win a championship. The evidence was presented to him year after year but he would not change his QB philosophy. The allure of highlight reel QB runs and escapes became a core obsession of his and some casual fans. By his stubbornness, Reid wasted and squandered his many opportunities to win a championship for the long deprived Philadelphia fans.

They already lost coming out of the bye week, may as well break another record in this lost season.

The Cowboys really stink but the Eagles stink. Hard to pick either this weekend. Instead, the Tonner's going to pick a lovely down at washy washy this weekend. That decision should be much easier.

Don't see Reid breaking the losing streak this weekend. The Cowboys are just as inept but I've completely lost faith in this coaching staff, players and the front office. This team will continue to go down in flames. Might just set a record for consecutive losses.

Along with helping to build the sports scoreboards most nights, he has had great input into the papers’ special sports pullouts – March Madness, Broad Street Run, Record Breakers, Greatest Moments – as well as its day-to-day, award-winning event coverage.

A 1980 graduate of North Catholic, he took some evening college courses. Those lasted right up until the first conflict with a Big 5 doubleheader.

His favorite books growing up were the NBA Guide and the Baseball Encyclopedia, which was, for all intents and purposes, the Internet before there was an Internet.

He has been immersed in sports statistics since the early 70s, when his father (long-time sports writer, broadcaster and the Daily News’ Buck The Bartender), would take him into the Bulletin newsroom overnight in the summer and let him update the Phillies statistics in a little, black spiral notebook. But things have changed tremendously in the decades since … He now uses a big, black spiral notebook. Email him at boopstats@phillynews.com.
