Andy Reid: Resigning 'would be a cop out'

POSTED: Monday, November 19, 2012, 1:14 PM

Should Andy Reid “cop out” and step down?
Yes.
No.

Eagles coach Andy Reid said Monday that there is not a scenario in which he would resign as head coach.

"I'm standing in front of the team and saying these are the things we need to do, one of which is we need to battle," Reid said. "I think [resigning] would be a cop out. That's not how I see things. That's now how I'm wired. I'm not going to tell them one thing and do the other."

At 3-7 and with a six-game losing streak, Reid acknowledged that the Eagles "are letting the fans down, letting the city down." He said he knows how the fans and city feel and would not make excuses for the record. He pointed to turnovers on offense and big plays on defense as a reason for the team's continued losing ways.

"You control what you can control," Reid said. "That's getting better as a football team. That's what my emphasis is. Become a better coach, make sure I'm putting my guys in the right position to make plays, make sure my staff is doing the right things there. That's where all my emphasis is and I don't put my emphasis past that."

Reid also relayed the disappointment level from team owner Jeffrey Lurie, who has not spoken publicly about Reid's status since the preseason.

"He's a competitive guy. Nobody wants to win more than Jeffrey," Reid said. "He's disappointed. I'll tell you that. Rightly so. He feels the same way we do, that we're letting people down in this city."

Buckle your seat belts, Eagles fans, 'cause we are clearly in for six more weeks of sheer humiliation and utter defeat. Lurie is content to sit back and watch as his Eagles become the laughingstock of the NFL, out of some kind of delusional loyalty to Andy Reid, who has proven time and again that his best years in Philadelphia are well behind him. Lurie has proven that he is NOT a take-charge owner who makes the tough decisions when they need to be made, and who holds people accountable for miserable job performance. Does he care whether the fans give up? Apparently not.

why should lurie care? as long as idiot eagles fans keep selling out the Linc, he makes his money. eagles are 20mm under the cap after refusing to pay veterans like winston justice, A.Q. shipley and mike mcglynn veteran money.

btw, those three guys are starting for the 6-4 colts

hannibal, I'M SURE THE IDIOT FANS (LIKE tpizza, tneaglesfan, callyouout, laughingloud123, etc.) ARE ALL IN DENIAL THAT THIS DISASTER OF A TEAM IS INDEED A DISASTER OF A TEAM. THESE DOPES (LIKE tpizza, tneaglesfan, callyouout, laughingloud123, etc.) WILL CONTINUE TO SPEND MONEY REGARDLESS OF the GROSS MISMANAGEMENT THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS. tpizza ACTUALLY WROTE A FEW MONTHS AGO THAT HE WAS GOING TO SPEND EVEN MORE MONEY FOR EAGLES GEAR BECAUSE THEY WERE A LOCK TO MAKE THE SB THIS SEASON. WHAT A DOPE THAT tpizza.

Coach Reid wants to insure that whoever they hire next season will have NOTHING to work with the the Eagles will be terrible for years to protect his record as the 'winningest coach in Eagles history'. No other explanation makes any sense.

I want the guy gone as much as the next guy but this is NOT A BLOOD SPORT. He has had an incredibly hard year that I would not wish on anyone although he has held himself up with class. He is gone, nothing more can be accomplished by standing watch and measuring every word!

Dude you are like a little woman, just bring up old stuff and WRONG. I supported Juan and I have supported the players. I have never supported Andy Reid. Myself and other EAGLES fans will root for the team, win lose or draw. I have never been a bandwagon jumper and yes I will continue to buy jersies, hats or whatever I feel to support the team I root for and have been rooting for these past 20 some odd years. I don't predict records because I am not a future teller. I enjoy the season. I am as disappointed as any other fan but I'll continue to drink the Kool-aid. That's a FAN not a fair weather fan like you! Stop putting my name in your posts because you are an idiot. I have not gone anywhere I just CHOOSE not to post amoung negative and ignorant posters like yourself. I wish I could go to the games, but living in Nashville makes that hard to do, idiot!

Now that Obama won the election, the media will fixate on Andy Reid's job and try to create a narrative about it. Reid will not resign. No one resigns especially in the middle of the season. Lurie will not fire him in the middle of the season. As long as the games are sold out and people are buying jerseys etc, nothing will change. This organization is hardly about football only. They're too busy signing convicts like Vick and trying to fix him and windmills and other off the field agendas. The performance on the field is a small part of the Eagles brand.

The right thing to do by Reid and by Lurie is nothing...Reid deserves to finish the year and Lurie making a change at this point would be senseless....the team isnt going anywhere so there is no point in making changes now just for the sake of change...let it finish out and make decisions at the end of the year.....there will be tons of decisions to be made...Although I am not a fan of Reid...his ways of handling thing on and off the field , the guy put the organization in front of his family ( which I totally disagree with )u cant fire him now..I just hope he takes some time off and reevaluates his priorities ...football wins and losses mean nothing in the game of life

It doesn't matter who coaches the team the rest of the way since the result will be the same. May as well save money on paying someone else. Get ready for full scale rebuilding in 2013.

Maybe trimming the stache would help.

Andy, you need psychiatric help. I truly feel sorry for you. Nobody becomes incompetent overnight without mental problems. Put the doctors in position to help you, and we can fix this.

    Seriously.

    Earl J:
The FAT MAN has class???? Really? Care to enlighten me with some examples? Like returning to training camp one day after burying his son? This is "class". Telling lie after lie in regards to his players; this is "class"? Putting McCoy into the game with less than 2 minutes left and behind 31 to 6 and then saying "we were trying to catch up and win the game". Getting McCoy a game-ending, and possibly career-ending, injury.

On the Redskin's last possession of the game and calling a time out after the 2nd and 3rd downs? No "class"; just a sore loser!

I know the word "class" only contains 5 letters, but I doubt FAT ANDY can spell the word. Obviously, your definition of "class" is far different than my definition. The FAT MAN has been exposed for what he really is: a BIG FRAUD!!!

    oneway
