Andy Reid: Resigning 'would be a cop out'

POSTED: Monday, November 19, 2012, 1:14 PM

Should Andy Reid “cop out” and step down?
Yes.
No.

Eagles coach Andy Reid said Monday that there is not a scenario in which he would resign as head coach.

"I'm standing in front of the team and saying these are the things we need to do, one of which is we need to battle," Reid said. "I think [resigning] would be a cop out. That's not how I see things. That's now how I'm wired. I'm not going to tell them one thing and do the other."

At 3-7 and with a six-game losing streak, Reid acknowledged that the Eagles "are letting the fans down, letting the city down." He said he knows how the fans and city feel and would not make excuses for the record. He pointed to turnovers on offense and big plays on defense as a reason for the team's continued losing ways.

"You control what you can control," Reid said. "That's getting better as a football team. That's what my emphasis is. Become a better coach, make sure I'm putting my guys in the right position to make plays, make sure my staff is doing the right things there. That's where all my emphasis is and I don't put my emphasis past that."

Reid also relayed the disappointment level from team owner Jeffrey Lurie, who has not spoken publicly about Reid's status since the preseason.

"He's a competitive guy. Nobody wants to win more than Jeffrey," Reid said. "He's disappointed. I'll tell you that. Rightly so. He feels the same way we do, that we're letting people down in this city."

If he wants to "put guys in better position" then PLEASE BENCH:
    Nate Allen
    Kurt Coleman
    Brent Celek
    Jason Babin
    Demetrius Bell and Danny Watkins

Nate Allen and Coleman are HORRIBLE!

Also fire Bobby April, Howard Mudd, and Jim Washburn NOW!!!! They are lousy (as is Marty Morningwig)

YOU ARE SO ON-TARGET conner. FURTHERMORE, NATE ALLEN AND COOKIE COLEMAN MIGHT BE THE WORST STARTING SAFETIES IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL.

I am pretty certain Andy has pictures of Lurie and Roseman together.

Andy has brought this mess of season and therefore should be forced to finish the rest of the season and face the fans each and every home game. Why fire him and pay him to sit at home and not have to endure the slop of a team he has created?

Don't "cop put"---Get out! Do the Eagles and the thousands of fans that have been dying a slow death since you, your incompetent drafting, your inept play calling and clock management have destoyed the team you inherited over the last several years. Have the decency to fire yourself.

Andy admits its his fault, team wasn't ready, the buck stops here, he has to do a better job next week. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I admire what Reid said here. Hope the team can follow that example.

As for losing more games, who cares? Just play out the schedule....makes no difference!

Under any normal circumstance, we should crush Carolina next week. I want to see that happen. Too much talent on this team...backup O line, or not.

Offer the Reid the option to stay with the caveat that he must relinquish his GM role. You might not like Reid, but he's better than any of the potential replacement being mentioned except for Cowher.

for Reid's sake then, Lurie needs to fire Reid. There is nothign to be gained and only more bad things to happen.
So, on monday night, the fans that do show up will be doing nothing but booing. The MNF crew will rip the Eagles fans, and the same people that booed santa claus will now be the same horrible people destroying this poor man who took us to a super bowl and lost a child this year. thats how it will play out.
for the sake of the fans, and the sake of Andy, Jeff, just end it now.

Reid's ansswer to the McCoy question was more insulting and pathetic than any ive heard, and from Reid, thats saying something.

Reid: "Resigning would be a cop out, and I wouldn't receive the last two years of my salary". does he think we're idiots? YES.
