Hugh Douglas knew his old agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was in town for the Eagles-Cowboys game last weekend, but didn't know exactly why - until yesterday, when Douglas was told about DeSean Jackson's reported agent shift from DeBartolo Sports Inc. to Rosenhaus.

"In baseball, people talk about Manny [Ramirez] being Manny," Douglas said, with a laugh. "That's just Drew being Drew, right there."

DeSean Jackson: wideout
DeSean Jackson: wideout
Douglas, a former Pro Bowl defensive end who is now a WIP radio personality, added that he was not surprised.

It's no secret that Rosenhaus, the NFL's highest-profile agent, ends up representing a lot of players who already were represented, until they somehow decided they weren't being represented well enough. Fellow agents have taken umbrage here and there, but nothing has come of it - at least, nothing that has kept Rosenhaus from continuing to add high-profile clients to his stable.

Who is the highest-profile young Eagle with the most earning potential ahead of him? Hmmm, think it over a while.

"I'm not talking about anything today," Jackson said, when approached after practice. "I'm focusing on football."

Rosenhaus did not respond to a request for comment. Ditto Eagles president Joe Banner. Eagles coach Andy Reid said, "I'm not going to get into that."

The current collective bargaining agreement says you have to be in your third NFL season to rework your contract. This is Jackson's second year, so Rosenhaus, assuming he officially is hired, will have nothing to talk to the Birds about until the offseason, at least.

Jackson, originally projected as a mid-first-round pick in 2008, lasted until the second round, the 49th overall selection, partly because he weighed only 169 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine, and partly because of concerns about his personality. Both concerns have been largely dismissed so far, with Jackson developing into one of the NFL's most feared weapons, a threat to score a touchdown every time he gets the ball.

That second-round draft status limited Jackson to a bargain-basement, 4-year, $3.078 million contract, with a $1.353 million signing bonus. Jackson will make $385,000 this season, $470,000 next season and $550,000 in 2011.

The Birds' other starting wideout, Jeremy Maclin, got more than $9 million in guarantees and can make more than $15 million over the life of his 5-year deal - but Maclin was taken in the first round last spring, 19th overall, about where Jackson originally was projected in 2008.

ESPN radio's Brian Seltzer, co-host of "The DeSean Jackson Show," reported the pending move. Jackson's name did not appear in the NFL Players Association's player-agent listing yesterday, where previously it stood next to that of DeBartolo rep Adam Heller. The NFLPA requires a 5-day waiting period between the dismissal of one agent and the hiring of another. Heller did not respond to a request for comment.

Jackson's parting with DeBartolo is significant, because the agency was the tie between Jackson and mentor Jerry Rice, whose guidance Jackson has credited with helping him become a force so quickly in the NFL.

Eagles fans know Rosenhaus mostly from his contentious representation of Terrell Owens, who was suspended from the Eagles 4 years ago and traded after the season. Rosenhaus tried to get Owens' 7-year contract revised after the first season, and was unsuccessful. Owens did get a new contract from Dallas after the trade.

However, most Rosenhaus negotiations go a little better than that one. Rosenhaus represents rookie running back LeSean McCoy, injured rookie tight end Cornelius Ingram, cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu and guard Max Jean-Gilles.

Andrew Brandt, founder of the National Football Post blog, worked with the Eagles' front office last summer negotiating deals. Brandt said last night he had no problems getting the McCoy or Ingram pacts done. (Of course, rookie contracts are pretty much slotted, especially after the first round.)

"Obviously, Drew's representation speaks for itself," Ikegwuonu said yesterday. Ikegwuonu keeps a copy of Rosenhaus' book, "Next Question," on a shelf in his locker stall. "Drew's great at what he does."

McCoy indicated he didn't know about the switch until a reporter told him.

McCoy said he would tell Jackson, "Welcome home." *

Get that money Desean. The eagles management have a history of not wanting to pay good receivers that money. 4yrs 3mill. is a joke. T.O was the last eagle receiver to have over 1000yds and over 10td receptions and he's been gone how many years? My point is TO produced, took the eagles to superbowl and management still wouldn't cough up a dime. Forget his personality. He handled his business on the playing field! Anquan Boldin should've been the other receiver starting besides you, but it's the management. The retarted head coach called about 50 pass plays against raiders knowing they were last in the league against run. Mangement let Dawkins go (the heart and soul of the defense), but keeps Reid and is considering a contract extension. Desean that just lets you know what type of management you're dealing with. Good luck getting your money, because you're really going to need it!!

DeSean, you saw how they treated the ultimate Bird, Dawk, a guy who outplayed everyone of his contracts. The FO will never get the benefit of the doubt again.

T.O. didn't get paid? He got paid, but when he 'out-performed' his contract he wanted MORE. Why should manangement (always the bad guy) have to cough up money when someone has a good year or two? What has T.O. done since he left? NOTHING! Where are all the people who think the RIGHT THING to do is show up and play the game? YOU signed the contract - play! Give up the Dawk talk. He is great - but - he took a deal that no-one would give him (except Denver). Good move for him, but not the management's fault

I hope he doesn't hold out next season. I believe in the, you signed the contract, you honor it, approach. I felt the same way about TO. If Jackson never saw any playing time and was never a factor in the game would he be giving back money? Nope. IF he gets a reworked deal and THEN drops off or gets injured, will he give the money back? Nope.

I think Andy & even Nickles would agree that DeSean has outperformed his 2nd round money so far. Just look at the Eagles history. They like to lock up promising young talent when there's about 2 years left on their rookie contract by signing them to long term deals with a nice signing bonus that are fair at the time but not eye-popping. Lets say a six-year deal (4 year extension to current deal with restructuring of the remaining 2 years for salary cap purposes). Well the player continues to play at a high level, forgets that pile of money they got up front and with years still left on their contract their agent convinces them that the salary portion left on their contract is unfair and points out the rediculous sums being paid to then-current 1st rounders. It's really no-win for both the player and the organization. The next CBO and the possibility of an uncapped year next year makes everything in limbo for now but I would guess that the Eagles extend his contract this offseason & hopefully he continues being a weapon for the Eagles.

To: DONT'T TAKE IT PERSONAL T.O. is the worst scenario you could ever bring up in regards to The Eagles and Contracts....T.O. if you recall, FAILED to sign a tender that made him un-restricted from the 49ers...he was then traded to Baltimore (against his wishes) where NOTHING had to be done....THE EAGLES front office steps and performs a 3 team trade which is almost unheard of in the NFL, then gives T.O. 47 million (which is what HE WANTED)....then he has a great Year, and wants MORE? And its the Eagles fault for NOT giving it to him? Then T.O. goes to Dallas, gets LESS MONEY, then if he had stayed with The EAGLES!!! If you want to talk about contracts with the Eagles, Look at Runyan/Dawkins/McNabb/Westbrook/Samuel/Tra Thomas....Everyone of those players got EVERY DIME of their contracts, and ALL were happy with those deals, Dawkins (who most don't realize FAILED to get ONE TURNOVER in 5 NFC Champ games)....got two FULL CONTRACTS from the birds...how many other teams can say that? The Pats let go of Seymour after he won them 3 superbowls! Edge James, was the leading rusher in the afc for how many years before he was cut by indy....same with Marvin Harrison who also won a SB.....

Then you want to CONTINUE to mention Boldin??? FIRST OFF....WE NEED TO TRADE FOR HIM!!! Do you understand that means we have to give something up?? And that the Cardinals have to WANT to give him up?? Not to mention that he has been injured and pretty much worse than Maclin this year!! Lets just say we gave up Sheldon to get him....we would still be 5-3...only we would not have nearly as many turnovers, not to mention now losing Hanson AND Hobbs.....but really, keep bashing management, don't worry, Gruden will be here soon enough, along with his 50-57 record with the bucs in 7 years, and his 1 SINGLE pro-bowler he drafted in 7 YEARS, with most of those picks being within the top 15....Reid on the other hand 10 years of Drafts, almost all from below 15, and he has produced more Pro-Bowlers from those drafts than any other team in the last 10 years....but really, lets Fire the guy....cus you know, 5-3 there is NO Chance of making the playoffs now! Go move to Dallas Already!

Good. Stick it to this team. Penny-pinching louts. Play out your contract and go join Dawk. I have no sympathy for this organization. Putting out garbage players, getting rabble like Vick, and calling this group of slugs the "best roster" in the league. The Iggles - going nowhere with McReid and Lurid.
