Someone is reportedly interested in quarterback Michael Vick's services for next season.

On Wednesday, NJ.com's Eliot Shorr-Parks reported that Vick is planning to meet with the Jets this weekend.

Vick is planning on visiting the Jets this weekend, a source close to the situation has told NJ.com. This will be Vick's first official visit, and could be his last if all goes well. And the pressure could be on the Jets to land a free agent, given a methodical and (basically) fruitless approach that has left fans impatient and critical of general manager John Idzik -- while the Giants have been on a shopping spree.

  • Vick is looking for a starting job, but the Jets -- while they won't declare the quarterback situation settled -- seem committed to second-year Geno Smith.

The Jets' situation at quarterback is far from stabilized, with rookie Geno Smith having a rollercoaster year. Having Vick around would give Smith a legitimate backup - something he lacked last season - and provide competition in training camp.

If the Jets' plans include bringing in a veteran presence to fill in the gaps during a transition period, Vick fits the bill.

The Jets have already signed receiver Eric Decker in an attempt to add some firepower to a paltry offense. Even if Vick does not win the starting job, having him in their arsenal will provide an alternative to the inconsistant, inexperienced Smith.
