Eagles wide receiver Josh Huff was charged with possession of an unlicensed 9mm handgun with a magazine that contained six hollow-point bullets after a traffic stop for speeding on the Walt Whitman Bridge on Tuesday, according to court documents. He also was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Huff, 25, was issued two warrants, for unlawful possession of a weapon and prohibited weapons/devices for hollow-point bullets. He was issued a New Jersey traffic summons for DUI, speeding, and obstructed view because of dark tinted windows. He was also issued a criminal summons for marijuana under 50 grams.

"We are aware of the incident today involving Josh Huff," the Eagles said in a statement shortly after the incident. "At this point, we are gathering more information."

According to the Delaware River Port Authority, Huff was stopped for driving more than 25 mph over the speed limit eastbound on the bridge from Philadelphia to New Jersey about 11 a.m. Tuesday. While obtaining Huff's license, registration, and insurance, the patrolman noticed an odor coming from the vehicle. Huff turned over the suspected marijuana and a handgun that were in the driver's side door pocket.

There was no permit for the handgun, which is a second-degree crime in New Jersey. The six hollow-point bullets were found in the 9mm magazine, which is a fourth-degree crime. The marijuana possession charge is a disorderly persons offense because there were fewer than 50 grams.

Bail was set at $25,000. Huff has a court date scheduled for Nov. 15.

Fortunato N. Perri, Huff's lawyer, said in an email that Huff posted 10 percent of the $25,000 bail and was released.

"Josh has a valid permit to carry a firearm in his home state of Texas, which unfortunately is not recognized in New Jersey," Perri said. "The weapon was not loaded while being transported and we are reviewing the circumstances of the arrest."

New Jersey has strict gun laws that do not include reciprocity for permits from other states. All firearms transported into New Jersey must be carried unloaded and contained in a closed case or locked in the trunk of a car while driving.

This is the second gun-related incident involving an Eagles player in a month. Linebacker Nigel Bradham was arrested after a loaded gun was found in his backpack at the Miami airport in October.

Huff is in his third season with the Eagles after he was selected in the third round of the 2014 draft. He has 13 catches for 72 yards and one receiving touchdown this season, and he also has a kick-return touchdown.
