History shows Eagles can bouce back from a beatdown

Eagles have laid eggs before and have come back big the following week.

Eagles (Pick 'em) over LIONS

What? Really? Are you kidding me? A 45-17 beatdown against the Buccaneers. Not the Patriots . . . Not the Panthers . . . Not the Cardinals. The Tampa Bay Freakin' Bucs. Not the ugliest loss in the Chip Kelly era, but we'll get back to that in a minute. Jameis Winston: Five touchdown passes. Doug Martin: 235 rushing yards. What? You know it's really bad when you start your prayers at night, and Sam Bradford - coming off a concussion, with a sprained left shoulder, and some memory loss - is the lead. Only two positives to point out: It's a road game and the Birds will not have to suffer through an extended chorus of boos. And the last time Kelly's Heroes were blown out (a 53-20 loss at Green Bay), they came back the following week to rip a lousy Tennessee team, 43-24. Actually, they also were blown away in Denver in 2013 (52-20) and came back the following week to rough up the Giants, 36-21. Detroit is coming off two straight wins, but the Lions have covered only one of the last five at home, and have averaged only 15.3 points the last three times out. With a lack of conviction, Double V is thinking Eagles.

PACKERS (-9) over Bears

Mr. Discount Double Check didn't look totally healthy Sunday, but still managed to guide Green Bay to an easy 30-13 win over the first-place Vikings. Should be even easier here. Check these scores . . . Last season, the Pack destroyed the Bears in Green Bay (55-14) as a nine-point point fave. (Hmm . . . This line is nine.) The Cheese Heads also beat Da Bears in the Windy City (38-17) as a one-point favorite. And in the 2015 opener, it was the Bay by 31-23 as a seven-point chalk. And the Packers have won 13 of the last 14 on the Frozen Tundra.

Panthers (-1) over COWBOYS

Tony Romo is back, and Dallas is going to the playoffs, right? Maybe not. At 3-7, anything is possible in the NFC Least, but the 'Boys are gonna have trouble with a Carolina team that no one is really talking about. The Panthers are only 10-0, with statement wins over the Packers and Seahawks. People still don't believe. Vic believes. Cam Newton and his guys roll in with a gorgeous 6-0 spread run on the road, while the Cowboys have covered only two of the last 10 at home.
