Donovan McNabb: Chip Kelly 'better win soon'

The former Eagles quarterback said that if you don't win in Philly, it's 'next man up.'

DONOVAN McNABB returned to Syracuse this week to speak at an insurance trade show.

While there, he took some time to talk with Chris Carlson, of Syracuse.com.

McNabb, of course, played quarterback for Syracuse before going on to play 11 seasons with the Eagles.

He chatted about a wide range of topics, including his DUI arrests (he said he doesn't have a drinking problem).

At one point, he even gave advice to Eagles coach Chip Kelly.

"Well, he better win soon," McNabb said. "You talk about the tenure I had, over a decade of winning successfully, making it to the playoffs. First round meant nothing to us. It was second round, NFC Championship or Super Bowl.

"We've had a top-five offense, but he hasn't had any playoff wins to show for it. We can talk about how smart you are and the numbers you're putting up, but Philadelphia is used to winning. If you're not winning, it's going to be next man up."

Old No. 5 also addressed the possibility of making it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

"I'm voting for myself," he said. "I'm just kidding. The funny thing about it is the Hall of Fame will never make my career. I think a lot of times as players, they get caught up in the yellow jacket. If they don't get invited or don't get the call, they get upset . . . Well, I'm human. I'll get upset if someone gets in who I know shouldn't have gotten in before me. But it's not the end result of my career . . . I can look back at my career and say it was one of the best. I can walk on my own, think on my own, play with my kids. That's the most important thing about it. I was able to walk away without any serious injuries.

"Would I like to be in the Hall of Fame? I'd love to get in the College Hall of Fame first. What we did at Syracuse, the wins, the numbers we put up. We already got Don McPherson in. We're good to get another Don in."
