Eagles-Redskins to go on as scheduled

With Hurricane Joaquin no longer a threat, Sunday's game will not have to be postponed or moved.

WITH HURRICANE Joaquin changing course, the Eagles and Washington Redskins don't have to.

Weather forecasters reported Friday that Joaquin was headed farther out to sea and away from the East Coast, which means the Eagles will play the Redskins at FedEx Field in Landover, Md., Sunday at 1 p.m. as scheduled.

The NFL had been monitoring the situation in the event the severe weather would have forced a postponement or relocation, but Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan lifted a state of emergency in eight counties, including Prince George's County, where FedEx Field is located.

"The governor's office has assured us that based on the current forecast playing the game would have no adverse effect on public safety," the NFL said in a statement. "We will continue to monitor the storm, stay in contact with the governor's office and other public authorities, and be prepared to adjust the schedule if necessary should the forecast change."

Sunday's forecast at Landover calls for morning showers, with clearing later in the day. The predicted high is 63 degrees.
