Eagles' Murray leaves practice with hamstring injury

As if the season hasn't been frustrating enough for the running game, the Eagles received another blow when it was announced that DeMarco Murray left practice Wednesday due to a hamstring injury.

As if the season hasn't been frustrating enough for the running game, the Eagles received another blow when it was announced that DeMarco Murray left practice Wednesday due to a hamstring injury.

There was no immediate word on the severity of the injury although ESPN reported that Murray underwent an MRI after practice.

Since he did begin practice, Murray was listed as a limited participant in practice on the Eagles injury report.

The media is able to see just the beginning of practice and his injury didn't occur during that period.

Both Murray and the running game have been almost non-existent during the Eagles' 0-2 start.

Murray, last season's NFL rushing champion with the Dallas Cowboys, has gained 11 yards on 21 carries. The Eagles have rushed for 70 yards (2.1 average) and two touchdowns

Depending on the severity, it could mean more work for Ryan Mathews in Sunday's game at MetLife Stadium against the New York Jets (2-0).

Mathews has carried the ball just four times for four yards.

As far as possibly getting more work if Murray is sidelined or limited, Mathews said, "I am not worried about carries. I am worried about getting a win."

Eagles coach Chip Kelly spoke to the media before practice, so he didn't comment on the Murray injury.

In other injury news, four players didn't participate in practice on Wednesday. They were linebacker Kiko Alonso (knee) defensive end Taylor Hart (shoulder), linebacker Mychal Kendricks (hamstring) and defensive end Cedric Thornton (hand).

Even though Alonso is not expected to play on Sunday Kelly wouldn't rule him out.

"I don't know," Kelly said when asked if Alonso is out this week during his pre-practice press briefing. "He has a sprained knee. I don't know if he will be out this week."

In addition, wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu (elbow, concussion), tight end Trey Burton (shoulder) and defensive end Fletcher Cox (groin) were full participants in practice.

Who knew what?

Did the Dallas Cowboys know the Eagles offensive plays before they were run during Sunday's 20-10 win?

That is one of this week's fires that Eagles coach Chip Kelly is looking to extinguish as the team prepares for Sunday's game at MetLife Stadium against the New York Jets.

On Tuesday wide receiver Josh Huff told reporters that there were times he heard the Cowboys calling out the Eagles plays pre-snap.

Wednesday brought a different story.

"I just asked Josh, 'do you think they had our signals' and he said no," Kelly said during his press briefing before Wednesday's practice. .

After practice Huff appeared to be reversing fields. When asked to comment on what Kelly said, Huff replied, "If he told you that, then that is what it is."

A reporter noted to Huff that it sure sounded different than what he had said on Tuesday.

"Stop blowing things out of proportion," he said. "Point blank period."

Predictable offense?

With how sluggish the offense has looked, even if the opponent doesn't know the plays, Kelly was asked whether the Eagles were predictable on offense.

Kelly, predictably said that wasn't the case

"I think we have been varied in our two games and then through our preseason and everything," he said. "We do a different job changing formations and things like that."

Kelly knows why the questions are asked.

"When you're not successful, I think guys are grasping at excuses to be honest with you," he said. "We still need to block and tackle."

Quarterback Sam Bradford admitted that the Eagles offense has some basic elements.

"It is not the most complex offense in the world," Bradford said. "When you play fast you do have certain tendencies and Dallas did a good job recognizing some of those but we have answer regardless of what the coverage is, we have answers and have to be able to get to those."

Early departure

The Eagles are leaving for New York on Thursday evening to avoid the traffic with the Pope's weekend arrival in Philadelphia. The team will practice on Friday at Monmouth University.
