Look for Eagles to pick up where they left off

If the Birds have a first half against Cowboys like their second half against Falcons, they should be fine.

EAGLES (-5) over Cowboys

Chip Kelly has done some strange things since taking over in 2013. But the King of Strange might be the way he deployed 2014 Offensive Player of the Year, DeMarco Murray in Week 1. Eight carries for 9 yards. Seriously? Was D-Marc a $42 million decoy? Let's see, eight carries at $42 million is like $5.25 mill per attempt. Move over, Ronda Rousey . . . Excuse me, Floyd Mayweather Jr. . . . Step aside, Cristiano Ronaldo . . . Those numbers would make Murray the highest-paid athlete in the world. Now for the good news: After an ugly first half against the Falcons, Sam Bradford shot lasers, completing 21 of 25 in the second half. Maybe he was initially distracted by all those crazy signs on the sideline. Now, all the Birds have to do is flip the script, and open the game as they closed it in Atlanta. With 10 wins in the last 12 regular-season games at the Linc - and no Dez Bryant for the 'Boys - Double V is all over the Eagles.

PACKERS (-3.5) over Seahawks

Lambeau Field is legendary. More so in December and January, when it becomes the "Frozen Tundra," but Aaron Rodgers is a man for all seasons at home. Doesn't matter whether it's summer, winter or fall, because Rodgers threw a 9-0 perfecto in Green Bay last season. Why even bring this up? Because everyone is yapping about the Seahawks beating the Pack twice last season (36-16 in the opener, and 29-22 in the playoffs). Both of those games were at Seattle, maybe the toughest place in the NFL for visiting teams. You want more? Mr. Discount Double Check was not intercepted at home last season and averaged 294.4 yards, with 28 TDs, in the nine victories. One more time: 28 touchdowns, zero interceptions. And without Pro Bowl S Kam Chancellor making life miserable, Rodgers should be able to extract his revenge in this, my Best Bet.

PANTHERS (-3) over Texans

Love J.J. Watt, but he ain't the only monster on the defensive side of the ball. Carolina's All-Pro LB Luke Kuechly is as good as they come. However, he left the opener with a concussion, and is listed as questionable. Check the injury list carefully Sunday morning. If Luke is a go, this game moves up to Best Bet level. If he does not have the pads on, just keep it right here as a medium play.

Titans (-1) over BROWNS

OK, so Marcus Mariota had one of the all-time rookie debuts in NFL history. Double M completed 13 of 16 passes for 209 yards and tied Hall of Famer Fran Tarkenton's record for TD passes (four) in a first game. Mariota also became the first player since at least 1933 to record a perfect passer rating in his debut. And he gets to face another Heisman Trophy winner, Johnny "Not so sure about football" Manziel, who has never won an NFL game. Remember these Titans.

Rams (-3) over REDSKINS

Nick Foles might not go all 2013 against the league (27 TDs against only two interceptions), but he did put up 34 points for St. Louis against a pretty solid Seattle club on Sunday. Now he gets a trip to D.C., where the football team is a - yes, we'll use the same word as last week - disaster! Washington has covered only three of the last 13 at home, and when you're dealing with a 18.7 percent cover rate, looking to the visitor is the move you wanna make.

Cardinals (-1.5) over BEARS

When it comes to a matchup between Arizona's Carson Palmer, who is 10-1 in his last 11 games, and Jay Cutler, who has lost nine of the last 11 at home, the tiny spread looks like a fabulous bargain.

GIANTS (-2.5) over Falcons

New York gave away a "W" in Dallas last week with some awful clock management and a dumb play by QB Eli Manning. But since Atlanta has won only four of the last 16 on the road, we expect the NYG to atone for all its blunders.

SAINTS (-9.5) over Buccaneers

Drew Brees over Jameis Winston every day, but laying nine and a hook is a big ask, so we'll make this just a lean.

49ers (+6) over STEELERS

Not sold on Colin Kaepernick, but Pittsburgh is missing too many stars to lay half a dozen.

Lions (+3) over VIKINGS

Minny has covered only five of the last 20 as a favorite, so gimme a taste of Matthew Stafford as a 'dog.

BILLS (+1) over Patriots

Buffalo shut down Andrew Luck and gets All-Pro DT Marcell Dareus back, so watch your step, Tom Brady.

BENGALS (-3) over Chargers

San Diego not doing its backers any favors covering only three of the last 12 overall.

Ravens (-6) over RAIDERS

Tough break losing LB Terrell Suggs, but no matter who straps on the pads to replace him, Baltimore should be OK.

Dolphins (-6) over JAGUARS

Just like last year when the Fish posted a 27-13 victory at Jacksonville. Groundhog Day.

COLTS (-7) over Jets

Brilliant 18-6-2 spread record at home the last three years for the Horseshoes. You feel lucky? We do.
