NFL: First wave of cuts whittles rosters

The Tennessee Titans waived 10 players, including veteran center Fernando Velasco. ... Seventh-round draft pick Joey Iosefa was among 10 players released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Atlanta Falcons cut 13, including running back Michael Ford and tight end Mickey Shuler. ... The Carolina Panthers' cuts included veteran offensive tackle Tony Hills.

New York Jets' wide receivers DeVier Posey, T.J. Graham, Saalim Hakim, Austin Hill, and Jonathon Rumph were among those cut. ... The Chiefs have selected James Winchester to serve as their long-snapper, waiving Andrew East and 10 others. ... The Chicago Bears cut veteran cornerback Tim Jennings.

Rams' Mason injured

St. Louis Rams running back Tre Mason, the likely starter while Todd Gurley rehabs from knee surgery, has been ruled out of the preseason finale with a right hamstring injury. Coach Jeff Fisher said Mason would be questionable for the opener Sept. 13.

Texans 27, Saints 13

Brian Hoyer led scoring drives on two of his first three series since being named Houston's starting quarterback, and led the Texans to a preseason victory in New Orleans.

Drew Brees led New Orleans 75 yards for a field goal on his lone series.

Brady back in court

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, and a host of lawyers are set to meet with judge Richard Berman on Monday.

The judge ordered the parties back to federal court for a meeting before a ruling he is scheduled to make by Friday on whether Brady will remain suspended for his alleged role in the saga known simply as "DeflateGate."
