Eagles Notes: Kelly says Kendricks won't be traded

The speculation can stop: Eagles linebacker Mychal Kendricks will not be traded, coach Chip Kelly said Sunday. "Mychal Kendricks is not going anywhere," Kelly said. "I can tell you that right now. You can write that down in ink, not pencil."

The speculation can stop: Eagles linebacker Mychal Kendricks will not be traded, coach Chip Kelly said Sunday.

"Mychal Kendricks is not going anywhere," Kelly said. "I can tell you that right now. You can write that down in ink, not pencil."

Kelly's assertion came one day after the Eagles traded cornerback Brandon Boykin. Like Boykin, Kendricks was a 2012 draft pick who will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Kendricks was also in trade rumors around the draft, along with Boykin. The Eagles did not deal either one then, but Kelly could not pass up an offer for Boykin on Saturday from the Steelers. He said the Eagles have not had any discussions about Kendricks.

"I'm here, man," Kendricks said. "I was always relaxed. In this league, you can really only control what you can control. That was my mind-set going into it. I wasn't really worried about it any point. But I'm glad to be here."

Kendricks said the Eagles have not approached him about a contract extension.

Moffitt's return

The first day of practice also included the debut of guard John Moffitt, who came out of retirement in June to sign with the Eagles. Moffitt, 28, abruptly left the Denver Broncos in 2013 after losing interest in the game and worrying about his health. He had legal and drug problems during his time away from the game.

"He made some mistakes in his life and I think he understands them and he owns them," Kelly said. "He takes full responsibility for what's gone on, and I feel like after meeting with him, that he deserves a second chance.

". . . We spent a lot of time figuring out what he's all about.  We felt comfortable, and we are hopeful that he has turned the corner and he's got an opportunity. Really, the ball is in his court."

Moffitt said the itch to return came around February, after he had been clean for 10 months. He said he's a much different person from when he experienced the problems.

"I think, right off the bat, just being clean and sober is a huge difference," Kelly said. "Your whole life, your life habits, the way you do things, the way you think completely changed."

Murray limited

Running back DeMarco Murray was only a partial participant in practice and did not take part in team drills. The team gave no reason for his limited play; Murray is scheduled to speak to reporters on Monday. . . . Safety Earl Wolff was a full participant after missing time in the spring while recovering from a knee injury. Wolff said a big improvement in his health came three weeks ago. "It's been a long time since I felt the way I felt, moved the way I moved, with confidence," he said.
