After three downs, Weatherford forced to punt

Giants punter Steve Weatherford takes shots at two Eagles quarterbacks and comments on a third before backpedalling.

STEVE WEATHERFORD is the punter for the New York Football Giants. He's worked in radio and TV and does a lot of philanthropic work, focusing on children, health and fitness, and family.

Seems like a nice man. He now also knows how to backpedal.

On Friday, on WFAN's "Boomer and Carton Show," he took shots at Eagles quarterbacks Tim Tebow and Sam Bradford and coach Chip Kelly.

"I'm the biggest Tim Tebow fan in the world," he said. "I mean, who wouldn't want their daughter to date a guy like that? I'll tell you what, I don't want him taking snaps for my team."

As for Bradford, Weatherford took the auto route, comparing Bradford to a sports car and Mark Sanchez to a sedan.

"I'm going to give you a Ferrari that maybe won't be running all the time, or I'm giving you a nice Cadillac sedan," he said. "It's not the fastest, but you know what you're going to get out of it. Bradford can go zero to 60 in 3 seconds. But you don't know if he's going to start up some days."

Taking exception to the QB talk was Eagles center Jason Kelce, who took to Twitter yesterday to challenge the punter.

Weatherford to Kelce: "Did u even read the [sic] my quotes? Or did u generate ur opinion based upon the headline? Ur smarter than that don't let some1 tell u your opinion. I was complimentary of all 3 QBs. Nothing but respect."

Kelce to Weatherford: "Of course a player who is literally not allowed to be touched is talking s---. Is interviewing punters a thing now?"

Weatherford backpedaled on 97.5 The Fanatic.

"I gave the guy the greatest compliment that you can ever give anyone, that you would let them date your daughter," he said. He then called Bradford "incredibly talented," but said the quarterback's injury history has to be accounted for when discussing him.

Doubt Weatherford will be getting a gig on 97.5 or WIP anytime soon.
