Chip Kelly hit with $99K tab for penthouse rent

Chip Kelly must pay $99,000 in a lease dispute over an $11,000-per-month Old City apartment, according to two reports.

A Philadelphia judge found that Kelly failed to give landlord Tempa Berish notice that he was moving after a year. Kelly faced a $79,000 judgment, according to The Legal Intelligencer. The Associated Press reported that Kelly also must pay his $20,000 security deposit after his lawyer failed to show for a one-day trial, citing court documents.

Kelly's lawyer argued that Kelly made the leasing agent aware he wanted a flexible lease because he wanted to buy his own home, and that the 90-day notice required in the 2013 lease did not match the verbal promise.

Kelly and the Eagles had no comment on the matter, according to a team spokesman.
