Dallas Cowboys reach for sky, use drones at practice
Head coach Jason Garrett using the remote aircraft to film from overhead.
THE COWBOYS are using drones to film their practice sessions from overhead.
According to ESPN's Todd Archer, head coach Jason Garrett got the idea from SMU coach Chad Morris.
"We pride ourselves on coaching and teaching our players as well as we can and film has been a big part of the game for a long time," Garrett said. "Typically you have an end-zone shot and a sideline shot. We use a lot of hand-held cameras on the ground . . . One of our coaches went down to SMU for their spring practices and saw they were using it. They liked the angle. We got a chance to see it, so we decided to take a look at it."
How long do you think it will take before the Patriots start flying drones over their opponents' practices?
If they do, the opponents can knock them out of the sky will some fully inflated footballs.
Pep in their step
The Notre Dame rugby team, which will compete in the college championships at PPL Park this weekend, has been practicing on the rooftop field at Friends Select School in Center City this week.
That gave Friends softball coach Bill Klose an idea.
Klose's team takes on Bristol in the PIAA District I Class A title game tomorrow at Pennsbury, and he wondered if the Irish could talk to the girls about dealing with pressure.
"I asked their coach [Sean O'Leary] if he would talk with our varsity team," Klose said yesterday. "He agreed and their players even came over to talk with the girls.
"Their main message was to not change anything in their routine just because it's a big game. You can get nervous and your heart can start racing, but the key is to keep it all under control in your head."
Bristol has won the last five District I titles and 20 of the last 30. The Friends Select Falcons are seeking their first title ever.
Who knows? With a pep talk from a bunch of burly rugby guys, and a little luck of the Irish, they just might get it.
