Patriots owner Kraft gives Netanyahu a ringing endorsement

Patriots owner Robert Kraft was present at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to Congress yesterday.

PATRIOTS OWNER Robert Kraft had preferred seating at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to Congress at the U.S. House chamber yesterday.

Kraft sat in the second row, directly behind Netanyahu's wife, Sara, and to the left of author and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel.

No word on whether Netanyahu tried to pull a "Putin" and steal Kraft's most recent Super Bowl ring. During a 2005 trip to Russia, Kraft showed Putin his hefty jeweled ring from Super Bowl XXXIX, when the Patriots beat the Eagles.

Kraft said that when he put out his hand to get the ring back, Putin pocketed it, saying, "I can kill somebody with this ring." Kraft then said he was led away by KGB agents and never saw the ring again.

Kraft's presence in Washington yesterday wasn't surprising.

He's a longtime supporter of Israel and even sponsors the Israeli Football League, which plays its annual championship game at Kraft Family Stadium in Jerusalem.

The Kraft Foundation also financed "Israel: The Royal Tour," a documentary that will air on WHYY on March 26. In it, Netanyahu gives a behind-the-scenes look at the country's historic and everyday sights.

Trip back in time

The Volo Auto Museum will give away a 1981 DeLorean like the one used in the "Back to the Future" series if the Cubs win the World Series this year.

Visitors to the museum, located in Volo, Ill., 50 miles northwest of Chicago, will be entered.

Maybe the lucky winner can go back in time and stop Billy Goat Tavern owner Billy Sianis from placing a curse on the Cubs. Sianis, the story goes, was so upset he and his foul-smelling pet goat were asked to leave Game 4 of the 1945 World Series against the Tigers that he said the Cubs would never win another world championship.

And they haven't.
