Eagles Notes: Kelly mum on plans to hire personnel executive

MOBILE, Ala. - Chip Kelly made the rounds Tuesday at Senior Bowl practices, jumping from the North session to the South session 40 minutes away in Daphne with particular ease. But he saved some strength for after the South practice when reporters approached him and got only one question off.

MOBILE, Ala. - Chip Kelly made the rounds Tuesday at Senior Bowl practices, jumping from the North session to the South session 40 minutes away in Daphne with particular ease. But he saved some strength for after the South practice when reporters approached him and got only one question off.

Do you have a time line for when you will hire a new general manager?

"When we find the right guy," Kelly said as he zipped off the field and to his car.

The Eagles coach hasn't spoken publicly since owner Jeffrey Lurie handed him control over personnel earlier this month. Neither Lurie nor former general manager Howie Roseman, who was essentially demoted to make way for Kelly, has spoken, either.

Roseman, who will retain control over the salary cap and contract negotiations, is not attending the Senior Bowl for the first time in years. So the Eagles won't have a representative answering questions here, unless Kelly all of sudden decides to talk.

Kelly doesn't seem any closer to hiring the new "personnel executive," as Lurie called it. The Eagles appeared to have interest in the Texans' Brian Gaine after he interviewed, but he was promoted in Houston.

The Chiefs' Chris Ballard and the Buccaneers' Jon Robinson were not allowed by their teams to interview with the Eagles. But NFL sources said neither wanted a job that will have little control.

Eagles associate director of player personnel Ed Marynowitz has been mentioned as a candidate but said he hasn't interviewed.
