Vick, Jets to visit Eagles for Aug. 28 preseason game

The Eagles will face the Bears, Patriots, Steelers, and New York Jets in the coming preseason, the NFL announced Wednesday.

The Eagles will face the Bears, Patriots, Steelers, and New York Jets in the coming preseason, the NFL announced Wednesday.

Dates and times will be determined at a later date, but the preseason finale at Lincoln Financial Field against the Jets will be held on Aug. 28 - the final day for all NFL preseason games. The meeting will mark the return of former Eagle Michael Vick, who signed with the Jets last month.

Whether Vick plays will be depend on whether he wins the starting quarterback job over Geno Smith. Most teams typically play their backups in the final preseason game. There's a strong possibility that new Eagles reserve quarterback Mark Sanchez will face his former team in the finale.

The Eagles will open at Chicago on a date between Aug. 7 and 10. They then will visit Foxboro, Mass., for their second preseason game from Aug. 14 to 18. The Eagles are likely to travel up to Patriots headquarters several days before the game to practice with and against Bill Belichick's team.

New England spent several days in Philadelphia last August for intersquad practices. Belichick and Eagles coach Chip Kelly are close and last year hinted at the possibility of practicing together again in 2014.

The Eagles then will host the Steelers between Aug. 21 and 24 before finishing the preseason slate against the Jets. All of the games will be televised locally on 6ABC.

The NFL has not announced when it will release the regular-season schedule, but it is expected to arrive the week of April 21. The Eagles already know their opponents - they will host the Panthers, Jaguars, Seahawks, Rams, and Titans; visit the Cardinals, Packers, Texans, Colts, and 49ers; and have home and road divisional games against the Cowboys, Giants, and Redskins.

The Eagles will begin voluntary offseason workouts April 21. Formal practices will begin May 16 with rookie camp and run through May 18. Full-squad practices - otherwise known as organized team activities (OTAs) - will be held from May 27 to 29; June 2, 3, and 5; and June 9 to 12.

Mandatory minicamp for the entire team, which will end the spring portion of workouts, is set for June 17-19.
