Eagles Notes: Wolff is active; Chung plays at safety

Earl Wolff was active for the Eagles in Saturday night's wild-card playoff game against the New Orleans Saints, although the rookie safety did not start or play in the first half. Patrick Chung remained the starter.

Wolff missed five of the last six games with an injured right knee. The team modified his practice schedule leading up to game, keeping him out of practice on Tuesday and Wednesday before ramping up his work later in the week. In the last week of the regular season, Wolff practiced but did not play.

Chung, who had been struggling in recent weeks, did not rotate in the first half with any of the three active safeties on the Eagles bench. There was speculation that Kurt Coleman would take some defensive snaps (he rotated with Chung on Dec. 15), but Coleman remained on the sideline. Wolff was the primary starter before he was injured on Nov. 10.

Safety Colt Anderson also returned to the lineup after missing the last two games. He resumed his role on special teams.

The Eagles' other inactive players were quarterback Matt Barkley, wide receiver Damaris Johnson, safety Keelan Johnson, running back Matthew Tucker, center/guard Julian Vandervelde, and tackle Dennis Kelly.

Vandervelde was the only player missing because of an injury. He missed his second straight game because of a back injury.

Wide receiver Damaris Johnson was inactive after dressing for the last five games.

Kicker Alex Henery entered the game on a hot streak that included nine consecutive made field goals. His last miss came on Nov. 10, and three of Henery's four longest field goals came in the last three games.

That streak ended against the Saints. Henery missed a 48-yard field goal in the second quarter, wide left. It sputtered off Henery's foot and seemed to have little chance of going through the uprights.

Henery finished the 2013 regular season 23 of 28 (82.1 percent) on field goals, his worst success rate since entering the NFL in 2011. His percentage has decreased each season.

The Eagles held the Saints scoreless on the opening drive. It was the 12th consecutive game in which the Eagles did not allow an opening-drive score. . . . The Eagles have at least one takeaway in 13 consecutive games. . . . Former Eagles running back Brian Westbrook was the team's honorary captain. He also was honored at halftime.
