Eagles Notes: McCoy's ankle is sore but improving

LeSean McCoy suffered a sprained right ankle last Thursday in the loss to Kansas City, but the Eagles running back says the swelling is gone and he has practiced without issue. McCoy is not listed on the injury report - a positive sign for the NFL's leading rusher.

LeSean McCoy suffered a sprained right ankle last Thursday in the loss to Kansas City, but the Eagles running back says the swelling is gone and he has practiced without issue. McCoy is not listed on the injury report - a positive sign for the NFL's leading rusher.

"It's a little sore, but I've done tons of treatment, so I feel a lot better," McCoy said.

McCoy was worried during the game that he had broken his ankle. He said it felt just as it did when he suffered that injury in high school. After McCoy was cleared to return to the game, he rushed for 92 second-half yards - and he said he still felt pain.

McCoy has 395 rushing yards this season, which is 98 yards better than the next-highest total in the NFL. He has rushed for more yards than 24 NFL teams.

McCoy is on pace for 2,107 rushing yards. However, he knows there are going to be teams committed to stopping him, so it might be difficult to maintain this pace.

"Everybody gets so hyped, so excited about the yardage," McCoy said. "There's going to be times when they're going to try to stop us. And I think as a defense, if you really want to stop a player, you can do it. They're loading up the box now, but there's going to be times when we're going to have to do other things and other players are going to have to step up."

Curry has a chance

Vinny Curry recorded a sack last Thursday in his first game this season, and the 2012 second-round pick is likely to be activated again on Sunday against the Denver Broncos.

"He's got a good chance," said defensive coordinator Bill Davis, who also said those determinations are not made until the end of the week.

Davis said Curry "had a nice game." He complimented Curry's pass-rushing ability and said the defensive end is getting better at "the two-gap stuff," which is required to play in the Eagles' 3-4 defense.

Injuries

Safety Patrick Chung missed practice for the second straight day with a shoulder injury. If Chung doesn't practice this week, look for Earl Wolff to replace him in the starting lineup on Sunday.

The only other player on the injury report was tackle Jason Peters, who was a full participant in practice. Peters dislocated a finger in the opener and reinjured it in last week's loss. He said Wednesday he did not previously reveal the injury because it's not a "big deal."
