Eagles Notes: McCoy returns after injury scare

LeSean McCoy exited Thursday's 26-16 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the second quarter with a leg injury, but the team survived the scare when the Pro Bowl running back returned to the game in the second half.

McCoy's leg was caught underneath a Chiefs defender at the end of an 18-yard rush in the second quarter. He remained on the field writhing in pain for a few minutes. Former Eagles coach Andy Reid, now the Chiefs coach, came onto the field to check on McCoy.

The running back eventually got up and jogged off the field without support. McCoy declined help when it was offered. He then headed into the locker room visibly frustrated and did not return to the field with the team for the second half.

Minutes later, McCoy ran to the sideline. He was reinserted into the game, with the fans applauding and sighing with relief.

He broke free for a 30-yard run on his first play of the third quarter.

McCoy had 11 carries for 66 yards before his injury. He finished with 158 yards on 20 carries.

For all the rushing yards Michael Vick has accumulated throughout his career, he never had a rush like the one he pulled off in the first quarter.

On first and 10 from the Eagles' 13-yard line, Vick kept the ball on a read-option and ran through the middle of the Chiefs defense for 61 yards. It was the longest rush of Vick's career.

Vick's previous long was a 58-yard run with the Atlanta Falcons in 2004. His longest run with the Eagles was a 53-yarder in 2011.

Vick finished with 95 rushing yards.

The Eagles activated defensive end Vinny Curry for the first time this season. After sitting the first two games, Curry was added to the lineup to try to bolster the pass rush.

He picked up a sack in the third quarter.

It was only the seventh career game for Curry, a 2012 second-round pick.

The Eagles' inactive players were quarterback Matt Barkley, cornerbacks Roc Carmichael and Jordan Poyer, tackles Matt Tobin and Dennis Kelly, defensive end Damion Square, and tight end Emil Igwenagu.

The Eagles dressed Shaun Prater over Poyer. It was Prater's first career game.

Carmichael signed on Thursday, so he was not expected to play. Square sat because Curry was activated. Barkley, Tobin, Kelly, and Igwenagu have not played this season.
