LANDOVER, Md. - Asked specifically last night whether he used a racial slur in his dustup with Riley Cooper at practice Wednesday, Cary Williams did not deny it: "It was just two competitors getting after it."

Williams was one of the more outspoken critics of Cooper after video surfaced in which an intoxicated Cooper used the racial slur while agitated at a black security guard. Quarterback Michael Vick said in a Comcast SportsNet interview that he thought trouble was brewing before the tensions erupted in a fight during practice. After the fight, Williams shouted to Cooper he is not a "N-word" Cooper could mess with.

Williams last night calmly demurred from escalating their complicated coexistence, and said the pair have affected a truce.

"We have talked," Williams said. "We want to build on our relationship."
