The Eagles interviewed New York Giants linebackers coach Jim Herrmann for their defensive coordinator position, according to various reports.

He is the first known individual to meet with the Eagles for the opening.

Herrmann, 52, has been with the Giants for the last four seasons. He spent three seasons with the New York Jets as their linebackers coach before that. He is best known for his 20-year tenure at Michigan, his alma mater.

Herremann was the defensive coordinator in Ann Arbor for nine seasons and ran a 3-4 scheme there. New coach Chip Kelly prefers a 3-4, although it is still unknown if he'll switch from the 4-3 the Eagles have had for years.

The Eagles have been linked most prominently to Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham. They must request permission to interview Grantham, but have yet to do so, according to Georgia.

The Eagles reached out to Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and former Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton, according to sources, but Quinn signed with the Seahawks and Horton inked a four-year deal with the Browns on Friday.

Former defensive coordinator Todd Bowles was officially named the Cardinals new defensive coordinator on Saturday. Former Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg is reportedly headed to the Jets and former special teams coordinator Bobby April signed with the Raiders on Saturday.
