IFL team releases T.O. for 'lack of effort'

TERRELL OWENS has overstayed his welcome.

Again.

The Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League released the controversial receiver Tuesday. Team co-owner Jon Frankel released a terse statement after coming to the same conclusion as the Eagles, and other NFL teams:

"Our fans are amongst the best in the league, and it is impossible to maintain a player when even our fans notice and comment on a player's lack of effort both on and off the field," Frankel said in a statement. "We need to do what is best for this team, our fans and this community. It's disappointing and unfortunate, but [he] could no longer be tolerated by the Wrangler organization."

According to team president and co-owner Tommy Benizio, the six-time Pro Bowler sealed his release by missing a community appearance and refusing to play in two upcoming road games.

The 38-year-old Owens signed a six-figure deal with the Wranglers, based near Dallas, in February. He is not required to play in every away game, but the 6-5 team is fighting for a playoff spot.

"It is difficult to look other players on this team in the eyes and tell them that being a team player is important . . . that giving it your all on the field every night is our expectation, when another member of this team is not operating by these standards", Benizio said in a statement. "The proverbial straw that broke the camel's back for Mr. Owens was his no-show to a scheduled appearance at a local children's hospital with other Wrangler players and coaches. It is not the desire of the Allen Wranglers' organization to disappoint fans by having our most notable player miss a scheduled appearance."

Owens was also given a financial stake in the team when he signed. But that, according to Frankel, has been rescinded.

T.O. was uncharacteristically quiet after his release.

No statements. No tweets.

But you know that won't last. He's probably already thinking of ways to convince NFL teams to take yet another chance on him.
