Eagles Notes: Vick sits out Eagles practice again

Michael Vick sat out practice again Thursday, another sign that Vince Young will get his second start in a row at quarterback when the Eagles host the Patriots on Sunday.

The Eagles' top two wide receivers switched places as far as their practice participation was concerned. DeSean Jackson was back at practice after missing Wednesday with a foot bruise, but was limited. Jeremy Maclin sat out Thursday's session a day after he was a partial practice participant. Maclin revealed Wednesday that his shoulder injury was a Grade 2 separation. He also has a hamstring strain.

Vick told reporters after Thursday's practice that he was "good" and that his two broken ribs were "getting better." He's going to need to make a quick recovery if he's to have any chance of being under center on Sunday.

Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said before practice that Vick did some light throwing on Wednesday. He was scheduled to throw some on Thursday, too.

"He's all right," Mornhinweg said. "He's day to day."

Young has taken a low-key approach as Vick's backup, deflecting attention from himself whenever asked about the opportunity that starting has afforded him. His performance in Sunday's 17-10 win over the Giants might not make it imperative for the Eagles to rush a less-than-100-percent Vick back into the lineup.

"He's really sharp," Mornhinweg said of Young. "He's worked his tail off for several months since he's been here and certainly last week."

Young was without Maclin last week, but the quarterback may also be down another starting wideout. If Jackson is out, Steve Smith takes his place. If Maclin can't go again, Riley Cooper will get his second straight start.

On the Eagles coaching staff, defensive-line coach Jim Washburn may be the most-versed in facing Patriots quarterback Tom Brady

During his 11 seasons in Tennessee, Washburn's Titans faced the future Hall of Famer five times, winning only the first meeting. His lines did a good job of getting to the quarterback the first few times the teams played, but with each game the results got worse.

In 2009, the Patriots clobbered the Titans, 59-0. Brady completed 29 of 34 passes for 380 yards and six touchdowns. Washburn joked that the game got so out of hand that the network replaced the broadcast with "some old Price Is Rights, some old Saved by the Bells.

"I had to watch that [game Wednesday]," Washburn said. "It was painful."

Offensive lineman King Dunlap (concussion) did not practice again. . . . Special-teams coordinator Bobby April said that Chad Hall would return punts if Jackson and Maclin do not play Sunday.
