Eagles defensive ends Tapp and Parker to miss game against Giants

The Eagles will be without two of their top defensive ends Sunday when they play the Giants in their home opener.

Darryl Tapp (torn pectoral muscle) and Juqua Parker (high ankle sprain) were both ruled out for Sunday's game, coach Andy Reid said.

That means defensive end Phillip Hunt will likely see more playing time this week and defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins, tied for the team lead with three sacks, may play some at defensive end.

That would leave more snaps for fellow tackles Trevor Laws and Antonio Dixon.

"Well, we're lucky we have some depth there," Reid said. "We're fully loaded at the defensive tackle position, to allow us freedom to [move Jenkins] if we need Jenkins to work over there. We sure were impressed with Hunt during preseason, and obviously we're keeping him on the active roster here now."

The defensive line appeared to wear down last week after Parker left the game early in the fourth quarter. Tapp was already out after tearing his pectoral muscle while making a sack Week 1. He was hurt as he grabbed quarterback Sam Bradford, he said.

"We've got a good rotation going here, and it should work fine," Reid said.

Reid did not have much to say about the team's changes at linebacker this week. He implied that the media paid too much attention to the move involving three of the defense's starters.

"We let them all play. They're all playing. We'll move them around a little bit, and let them play," Reid said. Asked if too much was made of the switch, he said: "You've had a couple good stories from it, so it helps pay the bills."

Police in Prince George's County, Md., on Friday arrested the man accused of impersonating Vince Young. Young and his representatives have said Stephan Pittman has conned victims into writing checks that they thought were going to Young's charitable foundation. . . . Safety Nate Allen, hampered by a knee injury, may be getting closer to returning to the Eagles lineup. "He's had a good week of practice, so he's getting there," Reid said. "He's working like crazy. He got a few reps in the game last week, you saw that, and we'll see how it goes this week."
